Hello All, here's my Friday Buck Knife... I got this 279T Folding Alpha Hunter... It has $57.00 stamped on the Blade... Why, I don't know... I got it at a yard sale for $20.00 a few weeks ago... I think the handles are Rosewood... Maybe Haebbie will let me know for sure... I don't know much about wood... It's a Beautiful knife...

Thanks for looking... ITE...

That looks like walnut to me. Buck did a short run with those slabs about 2003 or 04. I procured one for my youngest at that time as she collects that model and its wood looks like yours. I'll see what the stamp is on hers. The 276 was the upgrade gut hook model and the 279 the standard model. Mine has that same sheath (276) but is the upgrade model 277 w/ 154-cm steel. DM

Thanks David, for all the info... So my handles are walnut... Cool, I like that...

So what's with the $57.00 stamp... ITE

Well, retail was $80 so maybe that's dealer cost? Could that one be a salesman's sample maybe?

Thanks for the picture Pdave... Have you used your knife and how do you like it... The knife is sweet but I don't care to much for the sheath that came with it... ITE

I've opened the occasional envelope with it. :o

I can say one thing about it. It (and my other Alphas) are the smoothest opening knives I own! They are just butter smooth.

I like the feel of it and it open like you said, just butter smooth... :)

I like the $57.00 stamp!! Looks like the kind of knife Minnie Pearl might EDC. ;)

EXCELLENT find for $20.00!!

Merry Christmas!!

ITE, here's a picture showing the difference in the Walnut and Rosewood. The top is the one like yours and the bottom is the Rosewood (a gift from postfallsidaho, Thanks again Jim!).

I own three Folding Alpha Hunters (two rubber, one wood w/Bos blade). One of the rubber was my EDC before someone complained at work. It is one of the easiest one hand open knives around.

Same to you stumps. And you may have to explain who Minnie Pearl was to some of our younger members. ;)

For sure. And the folding Kalinga Pro is right there with it. It must have something to do with those oversize bronze bushings I can see at the blade pivot on both models. They look similar to the old oilite bearings we used on slot cars years ago.

Here's two old picture's of two that I bought from jb4570 sometime ago. John made these scales himself using Bocote wood.

Dang, you guys are old. Who is Minnie Pearl and whats a slot car?
The Alpha Hunter is a nice knife. That sheath allows you to carry it utilizing two positions and is of good leather.
I've used it some, whittling, cutting sisal rope and boxes. Sarah has carried hers and used it a lot. Even cut up a Diamondback with it. DM
