279T Alpha Hunter ... $57.00 ...

Thanks a lot, DM!

The two styles of Folding Alpha Hunter I have is two B279-BK-0 that have rubber scales and normal blades and one 0277RWS-B with Rosewood scales and 154CM BOS blade. Dave, your knife with the walnut scales has the rubber scales number.

Forgot about the Folding Kalinga (I have one of the rubber scaled ones).

Ed, if you check the 2004 catalog, you will find the B279WA (WA for walnut) which is the one I have.

I couldn't locate my 2004 catalog, but this is from 2003 and has the same knife in it. I think the walnut handles were only offered in '03 and '04.

Thanks Dave. I think I did see an Alpha Hunter somewhere in her hat.
Yes, thats the model. It was a standard model dressed up w/ walnut handles and those could have been offered for only one year. Missing is the 276 which was the up grade model w/ the gut hook. ITE, still a worthy model to snag and I'm not sure why the price was inked in on it. Thanks for the photos. DM

Man, ITE, you sure do have a knack at scoring big at yard sales!! Seems like nothing but junk whenever I look.

Merry Christmas!

Thanks for the info, Dave. Now I just have it remember it (I knew who Minnie Pearl was and I also had slot cars).

Thanks for the picture Pdave... Have you used your knife and how do you like it... The knife is sweet but I don't care to much for the sheath that came with it... ITE

Funny you should find an old Alpha with Walnut shoes;). The first of many folding Alphas I picked up came with those same scales. I got it off ebay and the fellow who sold it to me was selling a few of them.....well I won the Rosewood one (the red color was more to my liking). When the package came and I opened it....it was the darn brown one i did not want. The seller was sorry and said to send it back and he would exchange it, I told him to forget it as I was going to use it anyway. Then months later here on the forum I found out they did not make many of the brown "Walnut" version.....oh well, I had already used mine.

So Armand,
Yes I have used one of these Alphas. It's a great EDC if you like a big blade folder. I also used it to cape out the deer skull on one of my sons first Buck's. This knife is just a bit bulky for that kind of intricate work and not very Ergo for it.....Buck makes a few knives that are designed to be a caper. But, it did the task anyway! your milage may vary, if you use it you will like it:)

I like the $57.00 stamp!! Looks like the kind of knife Minnie Pearl might EDC. ;)

EXCELLENT find for $20.00!!

Merry Christmas!!

Thanks Stumps, I like the $57.00 on the blade too... So this will never get used... ...

Now to find a new one that I can use... ITE ... ;)

I like Minnie Pearl...

Thanks again, Pdave... for all the good info... I like this buck knife more now... ITE ...

I was hunting for information on my Buck 279T and ran in to this tread. I have the box some where. I made a Kydex sheath for it that I really like. I wore the original nylon one out. I posted to share my sheath. I wear it inline with my belt for easy one handed operation. I like a non traditional carry and sheath color so the eye doesn't pick up that I am carrying. I noticed one post here where the guy had a fellow employee make a complaint about his EDC. I have been carrying a knife way over 50 years and usually have at least two on me. Hope you enjoy the pics. Sorry the lighting was poor it is still dark outside so no natural light but I am sure you will get the idea.

A two year old thread revived to show us your sheath. Ok, built a kydex sheath, looks good. It looks odd to see an Alpha Hunter carried pivot out. I would carry mine with the pivot in and do a cross draw. Your probably doing the same side hand draw. DM

Good stuff guys. The Alpha folder is a personal favorite.

I have a 03 model with walnut.

Red, i'm not into those kind of sheaths, But it looks cool... As long as it works for you, that's great... I like this old thread...
I get to see some of Pdave (Plumberdv) pictures... We all miss him on the forum... ITE ... :)

Doug, nice picture of your Alpha folder... I really like mine, that's for sure... Thanks for sharing it...

Yes I carry it on the right side and draw it with the right hand. The pivot out allows the knife to be correctly in my hand when I use it. I draw it so quickly and without thought put in to it that I feel this is the best draw. Probably only best for me. I don't even use my left hand except to stabilize what ever I am cutting. I pull it with the thumb and first finger then I lay it on the side to actuate the thumb stud. Use it. Then thumb pushes the liner lock, close the blade and back in to the sheath in one fluid movement.
