Hi again guys. got my 2 brick forge up and going today. I stuck an old file in it, and it was only getting the last 2-2.5 inches heated to over non magnetic. Im using a bernzomatic torch w/ propane. I can see the flames "swirling" inside also. Any idea what the problem could be? What if i angled the torch head so it was kind of promoting the flamed to swirl down the length of the forge, instead of having it just going in perpendicular.

What model torch are you using? How big was the file? MAPP gas is hotter than propane. I had similar issues not long ago, search for a thread titled Help me tune my 2BF.

A swirl tip torch makes a huge difference.

Im pretty sure the torch is a ts3000. file was pretty small... probably an 1/8 thick and half an inch wide. And what's a swirl tip? I left it in for a very significant amount of time, after letter the forge warm up slowly.

In my old one brick forge when I first started, I had to move the blade in and out to heat an area the length of a blade evenly. If you just left it in there, it is possible you overheated the area of the file within the "hot spot" of the forge.

Angling the torch slightly can help increase the size of your sweet spot.

Something is wrong with your forge design. That torch should produce ample heat for that size piece of steel. Show some pics and maybe you will get more concise advice. I've seen quite a few 2BF's with that model torch tip get too hot. It was obvious just by looking at the scale residue on their anvils. Lp will work just fine in a properly designed/sized 2 bricker. No need for the high dollar mapp torch and gas.
