I have a chance to get a 2hp 3450 for cheap. I am now running a 1.5hp 1725 on my KMG and was wondering should I just stay with what I am running or pickup this 2hp?

Grab it if the price is right. You can slow it down a bit with step pulleys if you want to. Hell even if you feel that it's too fast, you got a spare motor for cheap.

Yeah I might try and pick it up. I have read alot of past posts on the subject but figured I would just ask and see what people thought. I am not unhappy with my current setup and as a beginning grinder it helps to be able to slow it way down for finishing work.

I run a 3400 rpm and it is fine for me. I have a 4 step pulley on both the motor and the grinder. The motor is mounted on a pivot that allows the motor to slide side to side so I can use any speed set up I wish. I do have a 2 hp 3 phase setting in my shop and plan on getting a controller though.

Take a minute to figure out the belt speeds you will be getting with your set up. If you are running step pulleys You have many options. As stated above the lateral movement of the motor increases those options.
I am running around 5500 sfm on the highest speed and really like the results.
