I tried to stay period correct as much as possible with this knife as I wanted to do a Rendesvous sometime.
The blade is Aldos 1095 flat ground, guard to tip is 12 3/8th, sent to Peters for HT @59RC. The guard was hand worked out of 1"x1" brass bar stock. The handle is California curly Redwood, the pins are 16 penny nails. I left the blade at 600 grit as this will be working bowie, and it is going to get scratches.

The rifle parts came from Jim Chambers it is a .62 cal rifle. I thought for a 2nd knife attempt at a knife it turned out ok
Thanks

Proper :D

I really seem you have a good hand for large bowies.
Make next one more fancy... Darker wood, lighter(in term of style) guard and some washers.

Thanks Idaho for the comments. I think next time I may try a stainless guard. I think my handle may be a little to thick also. I am paranoid I am going to sand through to the tang.

Which leads me to a question. Is there a source out there for a roughed out stainless guards, please forgive my ignorance, as I am not familar with anything like that. I have looked at the knife supplies, also there was someone on here offering smaller stainless guards. Maybe the ones I am seeing on knives are actual milled out by the maker of the knife.

Every stainless steel guard you see is handmade. And in many cases is pain in the * to file by hand :D

Why are you worring about sanding to tang? As long as hole is straight you can measure how much wood is left.

That is just it. My drill press does not have enough room to allow me to drill the tang holes in the wood, so I had to do it with a hand drill. While I think I got it pretty straight side to side, there was a slight cant to the blade again probably not enough to matter as I had excess wood showing all the way around, just was scaaared. lol

Understood fear...

Jantz sells pre made guards. I ordered two of them at one point but the ones I ordered were just huge for the knife I was going to use them on. They would've been better suited to make an "s" guard but if you type 'guards" into their searh bar there's a lot to choose from, chances are you'll have to modify them a bit in some way or another.

Tried that. The thickest stainless they have are 3/16th nothing that could be stepped and contoured.

Someone on another thread I may have the RC wrong on a knife of that size. When I sent to Peters I was shooting for 58-60 RC. Was this to hard for a knife that size?
Thanks
