I don't know how to describe these blocks other than unusual. These were cut from a maple burl that was live on the outside and dead inside. I guess that was what caused the wood to spalt with the unusual color patterns you see. The wood is Oregon Big Leaf Maple burl. This is a fresh batch of blocks that were cut oversized and stabilized in a vacuum/pressure chamber using Resinol 90c which is heat treated for maximum durability. They are hard, heavy blocks that should be large enough for just about any style knife. If you need a block cut into scales, just let me know.
