2nd Class Citizens

Ouch! You guys are fierce. It's the War of 1812 all over again. :D
Canada will once again be victorious, since the United States has been infiltrated by Peter Jennings.:D

I did not mean to imply that I thought of myself as an American, or even hint that I would want to be. I was trying to say that I feel like we (Canadians) get ignored, by American companies. They seem to punish willing consumers. I realize postal rates increase for international shipments, but very little for the bulk rate. Plus if you, my southern neighbours, want to call a magazine you get to use the toll free number which doesn't work in Canada so I get to pay long distance charges during peak hours.

I did not want anyone to hash up USA vs. Canada, but some people just aren't neighbourly. No, we are not a British colony, but we still have formal ties to England and she is still our Queen. Yes, we did kick your butt in 1812, but for almost 200 years since then you guys have been paranoid and have a huge army and could probably take over with a couple reserve units.

So to those who had at least some relevant comments, Thank-you.

For those who prefer to slam and bash Canadians, you might as well continue because you'll never change, never see beyond The Red, White & Blue, and never appreciate a DoubleDouble with a Timbit.;)

Dale.

Whoa, there fella's -- as I recall, Professor's original (un-modified) post was most complimentary to our Canadian Bretheren. Looks like he chose to get out because of the "chaff" generated here. I don't blame him for doing that! His original post stated my views perfectly. To which, I'll add that we're all Americans, regardless of the country we live in - from Tierra del Fuego to the Arctic Circle . According to my info, there's South America, Central America and North America. FYI - North America consists of Canada, the United States and Mexico. I have lots of relatives and freinds in Canada. I live in the Southwest and speak, read and write Spanish, also speak rather fluent Japanese and a few other languages. I'm originally from New England, does my proficiency in these "foreign tongues" make me "anti-American"? Don't think so, I'm also a Benefactor Member of the NRA and financially supported our position against the UN "take-over" of our Constitutional Rights. Many of our Canadian Brothers are in full agreement with us on this issue. Ease-up, give them a break!! Check out the prices they have to pay for cigars, cigarettes, beer and hard liquor. If it were us, we'd quit smoking and drinking!! Respectfully submitted-----

That's all fine and well.

Mainly I just wanted to point out that there's little use in complaining about unfair treatment from American companies when you're not an American resident.

I paid a premium for my mountain bike frame, because the frame maker is located in Vancouver, BC. I could have gotten a comparable frame from a more local framemaker and gotten cheaper shipping, but I really wanted this frame, so I paid the premium. If I didn't want to pay the premium, but I still wanted the frame, then I should have moved to BC.

I think that KWM and Spark have provided some answers as to why Canadians wait longer and pay more for their (American) magazines; the treatment isn't "unfair", it's just business.

Ok, who let Pete(Ouch) in here again? What other languages can you speak? Being from New England we know you can't speak english. ;) You are not even from a state Pete, at least you weren't the last time I checked. People need to remember that Canada is another country, not the 51st state. I'm sorry that they have trouble getting American magazines in a reasonable time and cost, but we are talking about international borders with the associated red tape.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled programing.

Pete, did you want to get together this weekend for breakfast? Make sure you bring your new Bali!

Even with the exchange rate and delays we still make great beer and great bike frames.....

A proud Canadian.
Cheers,
Gord.

Gord, above all others, you know my true feelings on this subject!!!!
These redneck bastids who try and raise hell with our Canadian bretheren are to be discounted and their opinions recognized as being out of realm of the true relations with the people of each country. People count, borders don't !!! My personal preferences aside, I love the pipes and Western Canadian music, Our national heritage in the US is very similar to Canada's-- English, Scotts, Irish, French, Czechs, Yugoslavs, Italians, Portugese, Chinese -- OK, I'm tired of typing--- Canada is comparable to the US as far as ethnicity is concerned - GENERALLY SPEAKING, from my info -- most western Canadians share "conservative" views with US Conservatives. Why attack / blame them for the actions of their "Eastern" Liberal counterparts without adding an attack on our own Hildegarde Clinton who recently refused multiple requests for meetings with the "Gold Star Mothers" --- Yup, Moms who've lost kids in combat, fighting for our country -- Hillary refused to speak with them!!!!! If you don't live in Canada, maybe you might consider that before commenting on their politics --- they may not like it there, anymore than we do in California!!!!! .02 centavos from the great souhwest!!!!

Hey Pete aren't you from one of those
Eastern Liberal Counterpart
places? :p I hate to admit it but so am I :barf:
Maybe they will get smart and vote that Clinton bimbo out of office next election.:D

Canadians = 2nd class citizens???? Don't know what you're complaining about... you should try living in South Africa (we must be third class citizens). Classified as an "emerging market", we are severely affected by screw ups everwhere else, like the problems in Argentinia and Zimbabwe. The South African Rand is trading at bout R8.30 to the Dollar, so we PAY through our backsides for decent knives and magazines. :(

Guess I can get off the soapbox now....

Ron, no bad pun intended against UPS :) I know most people on here will say different, but I've always got my UPS packages and in fairly good time :)

UPS?
Here is where we Canucks get screwed.
Not only do these folks take their sweet time in delivering etc., but they take a "brokerage charge" of $30 or more, even on relatively small items, that come across the border, unless you use their special air service. Purolator and fedex don't commit the same highway [ or should I say, border] robbery.
I don't use UPS anymore if I can help it, not to mention their fascist attitude.
If I want **** service and ridiculous cost, I'll just use Canada Post like a patriotic Canadian!
