I allwase have a hard time puting the last bevel on the knife to make it sharp. is there a trick to this. how do you do it?

I just freehand on a 220 grit about 20 to 25 degrees and then clean up with my Smith's guide with the diamond stones. Finish with a 15 micron then 9 micron 3M belt and strop with a piece of leather.

on the platon? i have been using a slack belt and puting a convex edge on it as its a sinch to sharpen.

I actually use the point just below the flat portion of my platen (Grizzy grinder) as it has a high amount of tension but no "thump thump" that the platen causes. It's probably slightly convex until I hit it with the diamond stones and the micron belts just create a the fine wire edge.

Split a belt to 1 inch, goes a bit easier that way, move nice and smooth and go slack belt. start at 120, 220, 400, 800, 1200, 2000, 6000, then strop.
