3 1/2" Congress?

I've just sent an email to Mr. Erickson. So hopefully, i may have a real and proper, custom trad knife soon, to call my own!

I now open this thread for people to post pictures of folding knives they've used to whittle or carve wood. Maybe you make wasting-sticks when you sit on your porch?
What's your favorite, folding, whittling/woodcarving knife?

I think the best whittler I own is the GEC that Stuart (IIRC) gifted me. But, I have not whittled a whit with it (tongue twister there). I guess the one that I have done a tiny bit of whittling (time wasting stick as it were) is my Remington, by Camillus, R14. It's made like a stockman but with a coping blade and a small clip instead of the standard wide sheepsfoot and spey. I liked it well enough that I bought another with a different handle material, but otherwise the same knife - a bit more used than the one I have but perfectly usable. I'll show the delrin handled one here now and I'll try to get the pair together tomorrow.

This thread needs a photo or two.

Ed I really like the blade selection on that R14. Looks very useful.

This is a Reese Bose Congress Whittler that I have done some whittling with. I posted this once before in another thread about Whittlers but I don't think anyone will mind. Except maybe the bad photography.

Instead of creating a new thread, i'll just add to this one, seeing as it's my thread, and the fact that it relates to my search for a whittling knife.
I've purchased a 3 7/8" congress made by one Al Warren, in S30V, as recommended to me on pm by someone on this forum. I hope to have it in my hands by next weekend, but we'll see. So, to come to the matter at hand.

Anyone own a knife by Mr. Warren, and cares to give us a peek at what they have?

Why isn't S30V used more by knifemakers? Is 154cm/ats34 better? More forgiving in heat treatment? Easier to work? Am i just asking stupid questions?

I thank all the people who make up bladeforums, and the traditional subforum, but i think i may have used less money on knives if it wasn't for you guys. I guess i have to take the good with the bad. :)

S30V is definitely harder to work with, although ATS-34/154CM isn't easy to work with either. Probably more significantly S30V is even more difficult to polish, so if the customer wants mirror polished blades, S30V might add a lot of time (and cost) to the order, or not be an option at all. In fact, many makers who do mirror polished blades even avoid ATS-34/154CM and stick with 440C.

Be sure to post pics when you get your new knife.
