I'm looking for some some 3/16th-thick x 3 (or more) wide steel. Found some at Mcmaster's, but it is expensive and not sure where they get theirs from.

Anyone got any sources?

Dang!!!! What are you making? a very thin top for a welding table or a very strong body panel for your old Jeep? :p :D

I heat-treated Admiral 1095 awhile back and it was doing some strange stuff. Is their stuff clean nowadays?

Got them folder blades to make :)

Michael, Admiral is a very good company to deal with but you never quite know what you get with their 1095, L6 etc. Good simple carbon steels are becoming hard to find. If you find a good source, best to stock up.

And
Don should know.....he has enough W2 to last him 2 lifetimes....lol. I have enough to last at least 3 years. Time to supplement that wth some 1084 from Aldo :) But back to Michael's question. Does anyone sell clean W1 in that size and would that be a good alternative for his purposes?

ohh . . . now W-1 in that would be awesome, but I won't hold my breath for that. :D

W2....maybe not two lifetimes Joe, but enough for this one :)

I've only found flat W1 once and it was 1/8"x1". I bought all they had and have used most of it up.

I just need to get that press running so I can squish my own. :D

I'm in the same position. I bought 235 pounds of W2 from Don and so far, I have only been able to use the 3 flat bars that Don hammered out for me and the 3/4 rounds. Meanwhile, my press is stil languishing in it's shipping crates. I have about decided just to rent a small shop space rather than build one at my house.

Michael, I'll bet Tremblay Tool Steel has some W1 in the sizes you need. Maybe W2. ;) :)
