Which thickness should I go with for slipjoint bolsters? 1/8" is twice as expensive as 3/32", which I find odd. Can I say where I've looked, or is that frowned upon? I know they are a sponsor (I assume anyway.). Tracy only has 1/4" that I can find.

The knives I'm planning on making are 4"x1/2" or so. Was planning on using 1/8" bone for scales, but only because I have some rather than any real specific reason.
Thanks guys!

I use 1/8" most of the time. Also use 3/16" if I want a rounder fuller look.If you use 3/32" you would not have much material for shaping.

You still looking at brass? I use 1/8" because when shaping the thickness is ground down just a bit, and like mot things, its much harder to add more then remove, after the fact. I get my brass from ACE hardware, btw.

I was actually looking at nickel silver from Texas Knife.

If anyone has any other ideas where to get a piece of it, let me know. My problem is I don't need a 12x12" piece to start with. That's like $90 at Texas Knife

I go to a local steel supplier for some stuff. Call them and ask if they have a drops area. Most of the stainless steel I have bought has been sold by the pound. Where I go also has a bunch of d2 tool steel sold by the pound. Hope this helps

I found some stuff at Jantz that will work. However, that's a damn great idea going to a local steel supplier! I didn't even think about that. There is machine shop right next to one f our quarters at work, I bet they would know where or who to ask.

Ajohnson, do you have an email address I can contact you at? I have a couple questions better asked off forum.
