This is an experiment to see whether I am able to make specialty one-off made to order compound curvature platens without great angst and heartburn. I wasn't going to do this because it violates my number one rule for selling on the forum which is to never put something for sale that isn't already made, and never take payment for something that isn't ready to ship. We'll see how this goes.
I am selling three compound curvature platens made to whatever geometry you wish so long as it fits within a standard thick KMG style platen blank. The one I made for myself was a 5" radius (10" diameter) with 1/4" radius on one end and 1/8" on the other.
I will need full payment in advance. The lead time to receive the custom ordered platen is 10 weeks. Except for failure to deliver on time or quality problems the payment is non-refundable. I've been here long enough that I think people understand I'm not going to runaway with anybody's money.
The finish will be as-machined, meaning there will be tool marks visible in the finish. The working surface will be finished with a new, one-time-use high-end coated carbide ball end mill with .005" step overs between paths. I don't recommend attempting to sand out the tool marks, it isn't necessary and you'd likely distort the geometry.
The cost is $200 for one hard A2 platen. This is limited to a total of three platens.
Any takers?
