Sorry to ask a question that has probably been asked a million times before, but for the life of me, I can't get the search function to work.

I have a NIB Buck 110 3 dot with the sheath and papers. Is this a desirable or common vintage? Can anyone please tell me what its approximate value is?

Thanks

3 dots were made in 1980, the 3 dot stamp was only used for roughly that 1 year.

The 3rd dot was added to indicate the addition of a bushing in the pivot to make the knife open easier.

I'm not sure on value, I would watch a few 3 dots on Ebay and see what they went for. Around my part of the country, I could see getting $70.00-$80.00 for one NIB, based on prices I have seen at some shows.

I would be happy to pay $70 - $80 for a NIB three-dot 110. :) I'm missing it in my collection! :( :D :D

It's hard to be 100% on prices on knives like this, I got a NIB 2 dot with all original box, papers and even the original hand written Sporting Goods store reciept 2 years ago for $40.00 at a local show, a week later saw virtually the same knife on ebay for around $80.00.

The wild variation of prices on Ebay can drive me up the wall trying to get a good deal, mint knives sometimes go ridiculuosly high, then the next one dirt cheap, then a "beater" for the same amount the next week.

AAGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

TLC, You're absolutely right. The best we can do is formulate in our minds the absolute top end of what we're willing to pay and TRY to stick with it (and I put an emphasis on the word try) :( Otherwise we'll all go broke before we fill out our collection. :(

I can't figure out what is causing the Buck related craziness on Ebay lately, I can't see how them moving would trigger it, maybe some, but not totally.

Confederate and Mike...I also can't figure out what's happening. I'm really new to the forum but since March, when I joined, I've seen the Ebay prices skyrocket. I actually saw 110's going for $10 to $15 every time I looked in...I saw 112's at Buy It Now prices of $15 to $25 and NOT SELL...Go figure. These weren't pristine examples of Buck knives but they were there. There always were the exceptions that someone had to have, 110's, that went for $20 to $25 or ore but you could always see them at $15 to $20...Not this year. Maybe it was the 2 years in a row of multiple hurricanes that made everyone nuts huh?...or gasoline prices...Maybe they're all sittin' around "whittlin' "...

I am also confused, and annoyed...I'm bottom-feeding, but I keep seeing the same usernames bidding on the junkers I want, and they drive the prices up...if they don't win them themselves... :grumpy:

In the few cases I do win something, it invariably turns out to be something that is in too decent a shape to tear down for parts...a "keeper"...but that's not what I want... :(

It really pains me to tear down a perfectly good knife when I keep getting outbid on real junk...ground down blades, broken tips, no edge at all...

There was one 422 on eBay last week; the blade had been ground so much that the curve to the edge was gone; it was completely straight...like a long triangle...the seller stated "used but not abused"...

IMHO, Joe and the Buck warranty people should screen warranty returns to weed out the people who may be buying eBay junkers for Buck to refurbish for free. I'd be willing to bet they'll be back on eBay selling for twice the price and advertised as "NIB"... :grumpy:

I gotta ask, what inthe world do you do with all these 110's you tear apart?:D

Micarta scaled 110's; dual-bladed 110's; drop-point 110's; more "rounded" 110's; sabre-bladed 110's; retro-bladed [long chamfer] 110's...why, the list may well be endless... :) ;) :D

Wow...I wanna see pictures!

Or have you already posted some? I mighta missed them.

I don't think we get too many knives from guys who buy them cheap on Ebay and send them in. By the time they pay for shipping twice, and the original purchase price is added in, they would have been better off buying one new. Who knows...

Then I give up! I can't figure out why these people are going ape over beaters, while collector-grade knives are still average priced...

The other day, a 2-pin Micarta scaled 112 was up for auction, and only two people bid on it...It went for a good price, but only *two* bidders??? While on another auction at the same time, an almost exact same 112 w/2-pin Micarta scales had 9 bidders...and another good price...

Must have been while I was still out at the hunting camp...... :(

I can only speculate that a lot of it can be attributed to ignorance. Other than that I'm as perplexed as you are.

This really perplexes me. The first one, although an early micarta version, has someone's initials on the bolster, which would keep me away, or at least drive the price down. It went for $70.

The second one was a better knife and no initials, but the sheath was in terrible shape. If I'm going to pay that kind of money I'd expect a nice sheath as well as a nice knife, both in close to new condition. Go figure.

I too looked at those knives Mike and the reasons you stated kept me far, far away from bidding on either. I'm just starting to think I'm gonna sit back and let Ebay settle down a bit before I toss out momma's money...LOL...I should mention that I picked up a nice looking 2 dot finally for $34...Now to see how it looks when I open the package...
