Hi all - thought I'd get some advice on a new knife. I plan to use it, so not thinking custom but still want a clean, more gent style look.

Searching for:

Approx. 3" blade (give or take, a smaller knife is fine)
Flipper, fast action
Liner lock or Frame lock
G10 or wood scales
prefer drop point style blade
Clean/simple look
Thin and light for EDC
Under $200

Eyeing Steel Will M390 (not crazy about all the writing on the blade) or even a Boker Brad Zinker Cocobolo (but a little squarish looking). Open to new or used.

Thanks!
Joe

Kizer envoy is awesome if you can deal with titanium handles. Been using it a lot lately, really enjoy it as a low profile knife.

I generally don't venture into the 3" range...and none of the ones I own meet your criteria.
What about a Spyderco Positron, Lionsteel TRE, or Brous Blades Specter?

Look at the Kershaw Fraxion. It is amazing! Slightly under 3" blade, ball bearing flipper (as fast as a assisted opener). G10/carbon fiber scales in several color variations. Under $40 at Knifecenter. I got one a couple weeks ago and its never left my pocket since.
Has removable pocket clip. Very light weight too. Mine came hair splitting sharp out of the box. You will love it!.

First came to mind mentioned above the ZT 450 for that size probably the smoothest flipper I've handled in your size ... Hinderer of course makes a 3" and I enjoy Hinderers but takes a bit differrnt action to flip as well as a ZT and cost twice as much ... I don't have much experience in flippers in the 3" range ... of course Kershaw Leek and a few other Kershaw options ...

I turn more to traditionals like Lionsteel Roundhead or SAK or GEC in that size.

Wow!! Thanks for all the great recommendations - I'm looking them all up... Didn't know about North Arm Skaha, cool looking knife. One I had been eyeing that hhmore mentioned is the Brous Blades Specter. The look of this knife really appeals to me but was a little suprised at the materials used for the price. I am not that picky about a super steel, but does anyone know if this knife has an amazing fit and finish or something that is worth the price?

Awesome, great options - and some are really inexpensive! Also seeing a bunch of these for sale here. I keep comparing everything to the Spectre, getting close...

I was thinking lionsteel tre g10 when you were listing the qualifications.

Gotta ask on the username—is it a confederacy of dunces reference??

Me and my weird suggestions:

Fox Knives Terzuola FX-525 Olive Wood. (There is also a Bocoto Wood, Birch Wood, Ti Gray and Blue and a Wood&Damascus blade version)

I was looking for similar knife. Lionsteel TRE is a good candidate
I have a ZT 0450 it is all they say and more - get one it will be a classic
Wish it was made with carbon fiber & without black blade. Missed the sprint run on that one

Own a North arm Skaha as well - excellent knife good size and ergos. The G10 scales
Are rounded to fit hand. This makes it a little wide as well as more of an outdoor knife
Which I guess it is!

Southern grind spider monkey was mentioned in my thread

Missed on too many of his criteria, or I would have thrown it in here, as well, lol... but, as long as mention has been made, I'll give it :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Doesn't quite fit all of your criteria, but as someone who also loves the Leek this is my favorite small flipper:

I think knifecenter still has them in stock and on sale. The Orange versions don't seem to suffer from the weak detents that some of the CF ones had.
