<3'' folder recommendation?

anyway, if you really want a low price (to meet requirement of not worrying if it goes missing)... the $20 kabar dozier is best
+1 I bought two of the basic models, one in green for me and one in orange for my daugther. They work great for what they cost.

Another budget knife in this price range (or a tad more) is the RAT 2 folder (but I recall it is made in China), and the action is much better. The Dozier is stiffer. I guess that's the trade off of the backlock (and probably different washer material)

The Ontario Rat's are made in Taiwan. Taiwan is not China, at least not yet.

Thank you all very much for your recommendations. I certainly had to get the Kabar which I started to carry today. I might get the Buck Mini Spitfire in the future which I found thanks to your recommendations. Cheers!

Spyderco Dragonfly

For a small knife that can go almost anywhere, the Dragonfly is an EDC MVP.

I prefer the Wharncliffe version. If the OP decides to go with "try something new", the Wharncliffe Dragonfly is a great way to go. It may feel a little overpriced for a little knife in VG-10 and FRN, but it's pretty much the best little knife in VG-10 and FRN. :)

I have a couple of close relatives of that knife. I'd definitely hate losing these! Maybe in the future I will buy the simple Swiss army Trakker and just carry that.

What's that bottom knife? Looks like a great sailor-style knife, but I find those blades very useful and want a Marlin spike. I got a wild hair and that tool/ knife on the left side, I would put a Spyderco Cricket serrated there. That would be perfect for shredding through rope and stuff like that at sea, with the reverse-S profile. Or maybe a S110V Dragonfly Wharncliffe, if such a thing existed.

Seconded. K390 Dragonfly Wharncliffe - really is the way to go. If you really want to save a few bucks you can get a Manbug in K390, but meh.. that shape is not a good cutter, compared to the Wharncliffe.

I'm a stainless guy so I stick with VG-10. I think there have been releases of the regular Dragonfly in better stainless steels but the Wharncliffe version still seems to be waiting. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll do one in MagnaCut next year.

I like it too, there's a lot of nice stuff out there, but I will never turn my head up at some good VG-10. Down for that Magnacut, too.
Oh, and I do not know if it's under 3", but 5x5 Solutions and Michael Janich/Mickey Yurco both have different Wharncliffe re-grinds for Delicas (and Enduras), Janich's is hollow ground and cut short below 3", Yurco's is flat ground.

While I don't doubt that the Dragonfly is a nice knife and cuts extremely well... It is too tiny for my taste. And I don't have big hands at all! I just preffer to get a better grip on the handle of any tool I use.

I think the OP did well with the KABAR Dozier... and since he didn't spend an arm and a leg to get it, he will be looking for a different knife in a near future.

The shape of the Dragonfly is just right to lock into my grip both comfortably and securely. It might be the smallest knife that I can use comfortably and with as much dexterity.

It's funny. I usually complain about choils and grooves that force an awkward grip. On this one knife, it just works. I think it will depend on the person and it's the kind of thing you have to feel to know.

We need pics.

Hello,

I'm feeling like I need a change. I'm looking for a folder that has a blade 3 inches in length or less. Preferably not made in PRC.

Parameters:
-Blade length: 3 inch max
-Blade style: Preferably Drop Point or Spear or maybe I try something new.
-Purpose: edc.
-Price: Something I won't regret losing because I left it on a counter top at work for 15 mins and it "grew legs".

I kinda feel like carrying my Buck Vantage again. The steel seems kinda chippy I'm not sure that I trust it... Any recommendation would be highly appreciated.
The Byrd line from Spyderco. Wont cry at someone's unauthorized barrowing.

Cold Steel Grik , just under 3" spear point .

It comes with a pocket clip for the left side also and is easier and more comfortable to handle with both clips mounted .

Mine cost ~$25 . Tri-ad lock , AUS8 , Taiwan .

Worked pretty smooth right out of the box .

More weird little animal cute than tactical looking .

Just search for "British Army Knife" on ebay and you will see a bunch.
