I am curious to know what will be you pick in high end production or mid-tech categories for a 3" flipper
Pictures, explanation, testimonies or opinions are welcome
The idea is not to decide which one is better than an other but to share what one like :)

Just because I'm seriously considering ordering one in the near future, I'd say the Hinderer Half Track. Haven't had one yet but I've heard nothing but good things.

I'd go with a 3" XM-18 Gen4. Multitude of parts and accessories to customize, tough as nails, and flipping action on newer XMs is very good in my experience. Mine flips fast and hard, yet I can still slow open with the studs, thumb flick, and middle finger flick. Pretty light and thin too. Most of the time I can't even tell its there.

I've handled the XM model and was extremely impressed with the fit and feel, very nice knives!

The Liong Mah Warrior 1 in carbon fiber makes me drool on a weekly basis.

I just got a 3" XM spearpoint, and Strider PT and as TSF Beast. They are all small but mighty! But my hands down best 3" flipper is my Zeiba Mini S2, simply an amazing little flipper.

Ferrum Forge Septer and the Custom Knife Factory Peace Duke have great fit and finish, action, steel, ergonomics and so on. I highly recommend them both.

Curtiss Nano Flipper
Ferrum Forge Septer ( I have the model after that which is the Master blaster, Fantastic)
Kizer Guru
Kizer Fiest
Quest Knives Small 2.0 Kwaiken

Shiro Neon but is 3.25"

I might be missing something here, please correct me if I am, but I don't think the above are midtechs. Unless Sergey Shirogorov, Liong Mah, Mick Strider or Rick Hinderer are personally involved in the construction, inspection, assembly, fine-tuning etc, which they may very well be if I am mistaken, they are production knives.

Some examples of 3'' or close to 3'' midtechs would be the McGinnis Proline Mini Exo, the Jim Burke Hitman Stubby, and the Southard Midtech Avo.

I think most people know I love the Half Track. While it is not for everyone, I think in the 3" sub size knives it is one of the best. I like the way it flips, the thickness of the blade, the feel in the hand and even the looks of it. I have big hands (2 XL gloves) and I have no problem using this knife.

Here it is in the hand and you can see even my pinky gets on the handle:

Here is my hand with a 3.5 XM-18 Fatty for comparison:

Another thing I really like about the Half Track is where the spine ramps down works perfect for my thumb if I need some added pressure or working on a more precise cut:

Funny timing on this as well. Last night I spent a couple of hours using my Half Track to carve up some fatwood for my camping tins. After a good bit of use carving this stuff up I had no hot spots or blisters. To top it off the knife was still nice and sharp! I think that is impressive for a knife of the Half Tracks size:

I'd vote Half Track, but lots of good ones mentioned. I'll throw out the ZT0900 which isn't mid-tech, but still a fantastic, beastly big/little flipper. Opening action is amazing on mine. .030" behind the edge.

I think you are exactly right as the term was originally conceived but the meaning has become fuzzy over time. Lots of people use "midtech" to refer to high-end production knives now. I wish they didn't, only because I get confused, but I don't think there's anything that can be done.

You are definitely correct that they are not Midtechs but the OPs question was for "high end production or mid-tech" so they fit in for what the OP was looking for.

Todd Begg Steelcraft Mini Bodega comes in various finishes and is a great flipper with a 3" blade of S35VN.

Kizer Mini Intrepid is very nice flipper as well with a 3" blade of M390.

Olson Quick Flick / M9 is a very nice custom button lock flipper with a 3" blade of RWL-34.

The above along with 3 other flippers are my most carried folders and all have 3" blades: LionSteel TRE TI Blue, Kizer Guru flipper, CRKT Eros TI.

The neon is really appealing me .... If i have some cash for Christmas maybe...:)

The ZT0900 , the half track looks really good
How do they compare to each other?
What do you think of the small brouss blade flippers?
