Just scored this today from an ad in the paper. Its a 3 HP Dayton, 1740 rpm, 115/230. I took a chance as it hadn't been run in 8 years, and had no cord to test it out. However, the guy was willing to take 30.00 for it :-D You should have seen this thing strapped to the back seat of my bike...Weighs almost as much as my anvil...
Took it home, found a cord with a plug and test wired it up. Runs fine!
I'm going to put this sucker on a Monster industrial grinder I got a few years back. Its got two 3x44" contact wheels that take sanding belts. It had a 3phase 1 horse motor that I took off cause I don't have 3 phase. Been looking for something beefy enough to start this thing for awhile now. Good things come to those who wait.
I'm going to wire it for 220 and get a friend to run a dedicated circuit out to the yard where the beast lives. I'll post a pic once I get the thing together. Should make roughing stuff out and grinding scale off of damascus a breeze....

Yup. Looks more like a dime masquerading as a quarter though. This thing is over a foot long and about 10" in diameter.:D

Awesome, a score like that will certainly make a person one "Happy Cat".

You're certainly not under powered for the application, replacing a 1 HP motor with a 3HP one. Ya great score.

OK OK sorry to tease:rolleyes: Just got home. I know these pics aren't the greatest, but its the best I could do with a cameraphone at 9:30pm. First is the old 1 HP Baldor that just didn't have enough oomph wired at 115. It was also a 3450 rpm motor which would have been pretty scary if it'd go more than a few secs without triping the breaker.
As you can see, the new one is a bit big for the mounting platform and will take some fiddling to get set up correctly. I'll see if I have a better pic of the thing in daylight so you can actually see what it looks like.
Its going to have to wait a while as I am getting ready for a fishing trip to Canada with my parents this weekend, and am planning on taking the little anvil and forge along to play with. I am going to try and throw together an angle iron anvil stand that can be taken apart for travel and doesn't weigh a ton. As always, so much to do so little time..... But LOTS of FUN ;-)

:grumpy: OK fine. Pics just disappeared. No idea what I did. They were in the preview, then gone....Sorry guys. I'll try again, but my brain is pretty cooked for tonight. If I can't get it to work, I'll try again tomorrow when I can think straight.

Ok that'll have to do. I have a better pic of the grinder in daylight but I already posted it a few years ago and it won't let me re-attach it and I don't know how to dig it up. Anyway, have a great night all.
