3" knives - A big man doesn't need a big knife (unless he does...)

They are hard to find here in Canada.. and it gets pricy to ship them here.. I'll stock the bay until I find one for a decent price to testdrive the model. Great looking color on that one! I really like the black valox handles though.

you should!
great little knife.

in all honesty,
i REALLY like the new rosewood model
and they had a isthmus design model i've seen that looks pretty spiffy too

but my 301 is black valox, so you certainly cant go wrong with that

I apologize for the misunderstanding but I hope more talk is done about sub 3" pocket knives (closed length). Has anyone had any experience with the CASE SMALL STOCKMAN?

I’ve carried a small stockman all my life.

Sometimes a good handle matters. Sometimes blade length matters. Every day I carry something larger. Working construction I always had a 5 ¼” folding hunter in my pocket. Off the job it has ranged from a large stockman to the Vic farmer I’ve carried this last decade.

Mudgard, rather than repeat myself I’ll cut and paste from my BOB post.

WITH SOMETHING AS IMPORTANT AS A KNIFE, REDUNDANCY MATTERS. TWO IS ONE AND ONE IS NONE. I ALWAYS HAVE A JR. STOCKMAN IN MY POCKET. THE MAIN BLADE IS GENERAL PURPOSE. THE PEN (I ALWAYS GET A PEN, NOT A SPAY) IS MY SCALPEL AND SPLINTER PICKING BLADE. THE SHEEPSFOOT BLADE IS SHARPENED OBTUSE BECAUSE IT CLEANS JUNK FROM MY BOOT TREADS, OPENS BLISTER PACKS, AND HANDLES THE ROUGH WORK. I’VE GOTTEN MANY CARS STARTED WITH THE SMALL STOCKMAN AND A PAIR OF PLIERS. THE SHEEPSFOOT BLADE IS JUST RIGHT FOR CLEANING BATTERY TERMINALS AND CONNECTIONS. THE JR. STOCKMAN ISN’T WHAT I’D PICK AS A SURVIVAL BLADE. IT’S WHAT I’D PICK COMPARED TO NO KNIFE AT ALL. YOU CAN DO A HELL OF A LOT WITH AN INCH OF BLADE. THINK STANLEY UTILITY KNIVES. THERE ARE PLENTY OF SMALL POCKET KNIVES YOU CAN CHOSE.

Right there with you, and this ties into the "modern and traditional" thread. I like both in my pocket out on site, but before I found a pocket clip knife I thought was useful a few years ago a 4" stockman or copperhead was my regular work knife.

Talk about overkill... out of habit many times I still carry a large 4" bladed modern with my 4" traditional! Ready for anything, I guess.

When I did a few years working at an investment bank, I only carried smaller knives and they did fine for my white collar life. I carried a Schlieper "mini canoe", a Gerber "Silver Knight", a tiny Buck, a Kershaw "Whiskey Gap", and others. The did all that I needed to do. In fact, the smaller knives are the reason I got into the habit of carrying two knives which at one time I thought was completely ridiculous!

A small scalpel sharp knife will do everything needed for me when not on site. Since I can't feel them in my jeans anyway, I always carry at least a medium size traditional daily.
