3 Knives

I'd just make myself 3 knives.

1. 18" Machete - Probably .125" thick. Convex edge.

2. 5" fixed blade. .125" thick. FFG

3. 9" - 10" fixed blade. .187" thick. FFG

G10 handles on all. Flared tubing construction. 3V steel most likely.

Here’s mine:
An 11” blade Kailash Ek Chirra Khukuri for big knife duties.
A 4.3” blade Morakniv Kansbol for camp chores.
A 7” blade Cold Steel Recon Tanto for general purpose use.

In an ideal situation, I’d also have a compact hatchet to make wood processing easier.

Shannon Steel Labs 'slicer' for game / fish processing. Vanax, .080" full height convex grind, 5" blade. Would handle salt water very well, good edge holding, and very easy to sharpen.

Busse Combat 'forsaken mistress' for shelter / wood processing. Maybe pig hunting. INFI steel, 0.25", 12" blade. Infi is semi-stainless and very easy to sharpen.

Brush Creek Knives hunter. For prying shellfish, boning, wood carving, gutting, skinning. AEB-L steel, 0.15" stock, 5" blade. AEBL should handle salt water okay and is one of the toughest stainless steels so can handle rough use.

How’s the toughness of INFI? Is it comparable to 3V?

INFI is tougher than 3V, unless the 3V has been heat treated with the 'delta' protocol, in which case they are roughly comparable.

There are tougher steels out there than both, but the quality that makes both INFI and D3V stand out from the crowd is toughness in edge stability. So they're the best steels (that I'm aware of) if you want to get minimal damage (particularly chipping) from heavy impacts on hard surfaces, like chopping hardwood or bone.

Just started watching History's Alone and interesting to see what each guy took to the party.
Seems like medium knife and an axe are de rigeur, and one guy with a kukri.

I think Morakniv has one. The red knife with a firestarter.
Correct, its called Light My Fire. Hoping to get one as soon as the exchange rate improves a little. I may have to rethink my choices. I was planning to go with my Leatherman Blast, I want the saw and extra blade, plus a file, I guess. Then I wanted my Esee 4, which is my biggest knife. I was thinking the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 last, but maybe the Light M Fire. (Can I choose that on the basis that I will own one some day?)
