18.5" 37 oz. Chiruwa AK by Kumar. It's a 10/10 rig made for heavy use. Only problem is Reno summer humidity (10%) has caused horn to shrink and pull away from tang. Might be able to fix with hooflex treatment or fill with black epoxy. This is a $175 dollar knife you can have for an even $100 delivered to your door.

Fine Movie Model by Bura. 20.5" 29 oz. Only thing wrong with the entire rig is grainline in handle which will probably never go anywhere. UBBB at an even $100.

16.5" 1.5 pound WWII by Kumar. Best all round khukuri we sell. Grainline in handle that won't develop. Yours for $62.50 (1/2 price) delivered.

Call or email.

UB, I bought a Bura 15" Sirupati a while back with the shrinkage problem. Got some black dye from Steve, mixed up a batch of epoxy, put it in an insulin needle from my mom, put the needle in the gap and viola! You can't even tell! Worked like a charm...and now I have a Bura.

Poop. I wanted that WWII. Just not fast enough I guess:(

Are the blems posted on any regular days? Like every friday or something? Then I will know when to keep hitting refresh:D

They're always posted while I'm on lunch break...:D

Then Dan, you just need to give me a call every day when you're leaving ofr lunch so I know to open up bladeforums. :D

Alpha - blems aren't posted at any specific time. Lately, deals have been almost every weekday (due to the need to raise cash for building a new shop) and some weekends.

It all depends on Uncle Bill's schedule - if he's in town, if he has errands to run, etc. etc. I find that blems most frequently pop up about 10 or 11 Mountain time (12 or 1 Eastern), which is about when Pen goes to lunch, I guess :D

I cannot believe that no one has scarfed up that movie model for only $100!

If I wasn't saving for an antique choora dagger......

Got some black dye from Steve

Ben/Steve (or anyone else, of course),

Was this a special dye? I got the chiruwa AK with the separation, so I will be trying my first major (if Hooflex doesn't work) horn handle fix.

Hi Joe,
I bought it from Texas Knifemakers supply. The other supply houses carry it too, I think. Several colors available. 1/2 drop in a small puddle of epoxy makes it extremely black. Unless you are using JB weld.;) Clear epoxy works best, like Devcon 2 ton.

Steve

Well, we shall see after it arrives. Sounds like a cute litte thing, 2 oz per inch. Meant for starting a chop/swing, not stopping.

So you're saying that the JB Weld doesn't need coloring, being grey/black already?

Will take a look at Texas Knife, if necessary. Great site.

BTW, coat 15 on the khuk handle is looking REALLY good.

I think Ben tried coloring JB weld and it didn't get black enough. The clear epoxies work better with colorants.

Great news on coat # 15!

Steve

JB weld is more for making close-fitting glue-ups, than for use as a filler. Epoxy is a good filler. Has anyone tried using black india ink? (just curious)

Which do you folks generally do first for cracks and grainlines?

Gooping with hooflex or other stuff in the hope that the crack will shrink or...

JB Weld first to fix the grainline?

Will adding "goop" first make the surface harder to bond with the JB weld?

Aard, the dye worked really well...with a clear epoxy. The JB Weld is good stuff but it resisted coloring as much as I wanted. I kind of wished I had waited and gone with the clear epoxy, but I hate wasting stuff and I was in the mood to play with the khuks.

I sanded the repair with 1200 grit sandpaper and hooflex as a lube. The horn will still dull a little. I then used a polishing compound designed for non-ferrous materials; worked it by hand; and then touched it up with a little dremel action on low rpm's. Hooah! looks good!:D

Bruise,
I've heated the horn and applied lanolin. If if it's not enough I've used Bondini.

Thanks for the tape advice BTW.:p
