post show shop cleaning part II

These are 3 more knives left over from the Reno Gun Show, which I want to
clear out for the holidays. I'm putting a fairly reasonable price on
them, simply because I want to stock up on supplies (and xmas presents
for my wife and kids) and make more stuff :D

Cocobolo handled EDC. This is a full sized belt knife, measuring 8
inches overall and with a 3.75 inch blade. Thumbramp is filed, and the
cocobolo scales have some knot patterns in the grain,
bookmatched. Probably my prettiest handle yet for those who like a lot
of interesting grain patterns. Handle is pinned with 3 1/4 inch OD
(3/16 ID) stainless tubes.

Blade is 15N20, differentially tempered, 3/32 thick and has a hand
rubbed finish. I hand sanded to 600 grit and then hand rubbed with
scotchbrite for a clean satin finish. The details are there, spine
matches the blade finish, maker's mark is done with a hand carved wax
and acid etching.

The grind is a scandi style convex, with the whole bevel forming the
edge. Cuts like a lazer, easy to care for. Stropping is generally all
you need to do to maintain the edge, if you really need to get
aggressive at some point, the mousepad technique with 600 or 800 grit
followed by stropping to a polish will work well.

Sheath is by Koyote Girl, half handle pouch with a max belt size of
2.5 inches width. Right hand carry. As with al sheaths, fully
waterformed and handstitched saddelry style so there are two threads
through each stitching hole.

Small woodcraft style EDC. This is a smaller knife, 7 inches overall
with a 3.25 inch blade. That leaves the handle a good working
size. Handlehas some good contours and is fairly thick, finishing out
to 3/4 inch. Jatoba scales offset with brass pins and lanyard liner.

Blade is 15N20, 3/32 thick, with a hand rubbed 600 grit
finish. Thumbramp and clip have been left smooth with a 600 grit
finish, since not everyone wants filework.

Scandi style convex zero grind for the bevel and edge is easy to
sharpen and can generally be maintained with a strop. For those you
use ceramics on the trail, I've found it's a bit easier with a small
ricasso, and I've made this one with a 1/8 inch ricasso

Sheath is by koyote girl, water formed and hand stitched. Puch is
about 2/3 of the handle length above the blade. Finish on this one is
a linseed oil soak. This finish doesn't buff out as pretty as a dyed
and polished one, but develops a fantastic lived in look in the field
with time.

(Photo errata: mark had not been etched at time of photo, and I
apparently jumped the gun and did the pix before Koyote Girl burnished
the edges of the sheath)

Hunter's utility knife.

This is a bit of an odd pattern, it's a fully functional boning knife,
but has a field sheath, is stout enough for general camp chores, and
does a great job with processing smaller (but not too small) game and
fish. Weighing only 6.5 ounces in the sheath (4 ounces for the knife),
it's a great knife to bring as a companion for field dressing, group
camping/hiking, and guided trips.

Overall this is a 9.75 inch knife with a 5 inch blade. Handle scales
are Jatoba with brass pins. Long slim and well rounded handle.

The blade has a slight upward curving spine, and a more full convex grind than I
generally do on field knives for a finer edge. Easily maintainable
with a strop and mousepad sanding jig if needed.

blade finish is 600 grit done on the slack belt with the same
orientation as the convex grind, then rubbed with scotchbrite to
smooth out the sanding.
