This week I have a new knife to show you, as well as two reposts. Let's get crackin' on the new guy....

Knife # 1
This is a Japanese inspired hidden tang paring/utility knife made from Hitachi ATS-34 steel. It is identical to 154CM in composition. It is a stainless steel with hard chromium carbides that add wear resistance. What I like about these types of stainless steels is that they are plenty stainless, they have decent wear resistance, but they can be sharpened easily with waterstones. The grind is full flat, but has a slight convexity to it like an apple seed/teardrop. I used my older "tribal S" logo for this knife. The handle is "D" shaped, made from Purple Heart wood with a white G10 spacer. The wood was sanded to 800 grit and oil rubbed with several coats of TruOil and a final wax coat for protection. It is extremely light and comfortable in the hand. Makes for a sweet little slice/dice knife, and you hardly have to worry about any corrosion.

OAL: 9"
Blade: 4 5/8"
Handle: 4 3/8"
Thickness: 1/16", taper to tip
Steel: Hitachi ATS-34, ~64HRC with sub zero (-100°F) treatment
Handle: Purple Heart and white G10 spacer
Edge: 13° per side, 6 micron (~0.010" BTE thickness)

You'll be stoked. I've been using one of Stuart's knives almost daily at work for years. By the way, you're not the only one who'd been eyeballing that sweet hunk of quilted maple. Nice snag.

Thank you, I worked in a custom wood shop while in highschool back in the day so figured maple always takes me back.
Don't know if I'm supposed to post this here but - I haven't heard anything in a few days, does anyone know if that is normal for Stuart? With everything going on I'm just hoping he is ok.

He's always been responsive. Dunno...

All is good, for the moment! Been a weekend from hell, car troubles out that wazoo. Hadn't had hardly any time to check the sales thread. Email sent to Cascadia, and the maple knife is sold to him. Thanks all for the kind words. Knife # 1 and # 2 still for sale!

Just wanted to direct attention to the hardness of knife # 1. That ATS-34 is at ~64HRC! You don't see it that hard that often. But for what that knife is designed for, 64HRC will give EXCELLENT edge retention. And even AEBL (knife # 2) at 62-63HRC is no slouch. My wife uses a santoku I made her in AEBL 62HRC and it has great edge retention. Maybe once every 6-8 weeks I might lightly "steel" it on a ceramic honing rod to bring it back to razor sharpness, but only actually take it to the stones about once a year. We are talking light, almost daily use.
