First off I found a handy little gadget for stripping the bark off roots when making cordage.
I located some Cedar root:
To remove the bark I used a tag from a dogs collar as a break. Hold the tag firmly on a solid surface and pull the root through the V :
Very quick and easy :
While making the cordage I got bit by Gnats twice so looked for some Vanilla leaf :
Pull some off, spit on it and rub it in ya hands till ya get some green juice. Rub this over any exposed skin. I stayed bite free for the rest of the hike !
No that I'm likely to be without a knife !!!!
