3 small Benchmades - similar, but.. different?

Interesting that you guys find the thumb studs on the 707 too close to the handle. What direction are you pushing them in? I find I can slow open or pop flick open my 707 by pushing the thumbstuds parallel to the handle, instead of out more perpendicular.
I had the same type of moment with love for axis, but it has been with a Microtech Mini Socom Elite. I fortunately didn't drop the cash on a Sebenza before realizing my hopeless love for the Axis lock!
David-

Do you own a Mini-Grip? When closed, the thumb stud has a little space on all sides, whereas the thumbstud on the 707 is right snug up against the handle. I can slow open or pop flick either as well - it's just a little more difficult on the 707. However, if I didn't own a Mini-Grip, I don't think I'd realize how much more I prefer the location of the thumbstud. :)

I had a 555S, but it had the oval hole. Sorry to say I can't compare directly between them... but I do have a 14210, 940, and 960. The 14210 is the closest in size, and has studs further from the handle. I don't see a difference in difficulty opening them though, just a subtly different approach to it.
I just know I got lucky and scored a 707 LE in D2... if you can find one, snatch it up! :D

I saw the D2 blade with the 707, however it had wood inlays, which I didn't want for EDC'ing. I can see why people don't like the Al handle - within a few hours of carrying it, it started scratching up. But the G2 inserts are really nice.

As for the thumb stud location - it could also be a matter of the size/shape of the user's hands, as well as how we each approach opening it! I can say, like you said, that the difference is subtle. I guess that's the beauty of preference!

Sorry to jump in a bit late here:) Been super busy!!! I own both the Mini-Grip (actually, a couple) and a 710. I like the 710 but it's a bit big for me - my Mini-Grip (as well as Spydie Delica 4) are basically my workhorses. Just a couple of weeks ago I was looking at the Presidio line and ended up with a 525. The larger Presidio, to me, was still a nice knife, but it was bigger, actually wider than I thought. Not quite a tank, but close. The Mini-Presidio, seemed like an upscale version of the Mini-Grip in one sense, just a lot nicer:D

Hope this helps - gord

What I think is funny is that the Walnut?? inserts in the handle of the 707D2 seem to be holding up better than the Al handles as far as scratch resistance!
Glad you like your 707 :)
