A 3 step pulley, is a 3 step pulley, Right? I am not so sure about that! Here is one brand on EBay.

Here is another, they are so proud they don't even show a picture.

But I did manage to fine a pic on the internet.

So if my eyes are not deceiving me there is perceivable difference in the casting and finishing quality that could lead to vibration and noise!
There is a big price difference in the two brands but I think I see why. I guess I am just cheap and hate to pay the difference in price. I hate worse to buy a POS at any price! I have learned over the years it just pays to buy quality.
Anyone out there have any experience with the first one Maska brand?
I get the feeling this one of those cases of comparing apples to apples and so on!

Big difference between the 2. The cast iron ones are MUCH better. Twice as much and never wear out as the Chicago cast is an aluminium alloy and you can even see the cast marks which are abrasive on the belt. I got some and had to file it smooth and the set screw keeps coming loose.

Maska makes some of the finest pulleys out there, cast and then trued and balanced, they run wicked smooth, and will last a life time. You'll pay a bit more, but they're well worth it. I use maska pulleys on all of my grinders and machines.

Thanks guys that is just the kind of info I was looking. Let's say it is also pretty miuch what I expected to hear, guess I just wanted to confirm that gut feeling.

I used to buy tools years ago at age 17 -18 yrs old for price and it didn't take me long to figure out that usually, "you get what you pay for"!
So if you buy the cheap one, now you got something that doesn't work and you still have to pay for a good one later. Nowdays I will save my pennies and go for the better product. Sometimes it is real hard to tell when purchasing of the net what you are looking at, so figured I would ask.

I am getting ready to purchase a brand new motor for my grinder build and I forsee brand new Maksa pullies with it now! ;) Thanks for the responces!

I would get these. I've been using mine for two years daily and they haven't shown any ware, to speak of. They are only eight more dollars a piece.

Maska pulleys are made by Browning. There is nothing wrong with them, quality-wise. I am using them on my grinder and have some more that I am planning to use to slow down my band saw.

Kyle, the pulleys that Rob sells are Maska pulleys. That's another good recommendation for them right there!

And then there are real pulleys like these :D
