3 things I need at night.

seems like most of you don't live in a safe place?
(because they need a gun at night... *just wondering*)

"Safe place" is a relative term. No place is absolutely safe.

I have fire insurance.
I have chemical fire-extinguishers.
I have the telephone number for the fire department memorized.
I have never lived in a house that had a fire -- even a very small fire.

There have been breakins of occupied houses in this area.
If someone wants to break into my isolated house, it's up to me to protect myself and my family until the police can be contacted and arrive.
I truly HOPE "protect" consists of my calling downstairs, "I have a shotgun and I have called the police" -- and hearing the sound of the robber running away.

If not, natural selection will run it's course. That is the natural order of things.

Ed. Buy a flashlight.

this is a safe plase BECAUSE we all have guns. People are less likely to break into a house were it is leagal for the owner to have a fire arm as well as use it for the defence or there person and property. Yes some of us have guns but most of us will never have to use them.
here is my list
1.

2.sprigfield xd40
3.benchmade 730

1) Being in my own bed. (I travel too much)
2) Good book.
3) selection of knives to choose to set beside bed.
4) Wife with Milo

1) Wife,
2) loud dog (mine weighs about 45 pounds; barks like 90),
3) 12 gauge shotgun (slide racking translates easily into "Get out!" in most languages).

Oh yeah,

4) cell phone to summon local uniformed historians so they can write down whatever just happened.

Don't forget to have a plan discussed with your wife or girlfriend. I remember the panicked look on my wife's face years ago when our apartment alarm went off and the door was wide open. While I flew out of bed, grabbed my bedside pistol (that she did not know about), and stood off to the side looking down the stairs at the open door, she was just sitting scared. Turned out to be nothing. If it had been something we could of been caught unprepared. As it stands now she knows to grab the cellphone and run to the kids room to dial 911. While she does that I stay between them and the main house and yell that the police have been called and I have a gun. I don't go look for them, I just let them take whatever or leave. No intention of getting jumped in the dark checking for intruders just to protect my TV. If they start down the hall towards the bedrooms & kids I will shoot them.

Sorry to push this back up but I had to show off that my girlfriend just bought me the watch I metioned above. :D

It is a really cool watch. We went to the store which is located in L.A. and talked to one of the founders who walked me through all the models. Really a nice guy and another interesting thing about the watch is that it was worn by Jack Bauer in this season's 24 (season 5). I was already sold before then but . .it brought the cool factor up a bit more.

The light is not as bright as I initially hoped for but I reminded myself it was a watch and it is bright enough for signaling or reading maps and such. With ambient light it seems knida dim but in the dark you will see it usefulness.

It is sturdy and comfy with the ballistic strap shown hear . .with the metal it weighted quite a bit but feels nice and has a much more of a dressier look to it. You can see it in the case pic. All the bands links are removeable by included tools, so you can switch them out yourself!

In sunlight the carbon fiber face glistens. The numbers are easy to read. It is pricey but it makes me happy and love my girlfriend that much more.

It comes with an awesome watertight, dust proof . .ah you read it hear

What I have come to notice is that . .this is a perfect knife carring case!!!!
I will be putting up a new thread on this, so more on this here http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3851635#post3851635

Just thought I'd share. I'm a happy man!:D

Practical katana plus in stand up stand next to me. Wife has alarm. Police issue Mag lite mounted on wall next to me. On nighttable a large fixed blade or folder. Pillows, blankets, dog on the floor. Always have a knife on the nighttable when traveling.

I keep my Orb light beside my bed. It has a trituim indicator. I set my eye glasses right in front of it so I know where they are. :)

I'm glad you like the Spec Ops watch, but I lost faith in it as soon as I noticed that it had replaced the Dark Ops ads in my knife magazines as the current full-page mall ninja magnet.

To be on topic, I rely on in order of escalation:

1.) leather boots
2.) mobile phone
3.) traveler wrench
4.) Inova X5 with TID
5.) Spyderco Yojimbo

LMAO........ Leather boots. Maybe on his lady?
1 Glock 21
2 Surefire M6 500 lums
3 My great furry friends TOE & BOOTS Total wt. 290 lbs.

Yeah . .it is kinda gimmicky and screems yuppie mall ninja . . . but still I love it . .and whe you don't have to pay (girl friend bought it). .. hey can't beat that.

Plus anything product placed by Jack Bauer is on my want list .. I don't care if I am a mindless gadget buying zombie . .JACK RULES!

I tell all to take three things to bed.

1. Flashlight.. for the obvious to see in the dark.
2. Cell phone... to call for help, or at least get them on the way.
3. House key on a ribbon... to toss out the window for the police to let themselves in so you don't have to run through the house.

Of course 3 things is the minimum.

I also have access to my gun safe... No one gets up my stairs! That's the plan, simple huh? They can have what ever they want downstairs...No one get's anything from upstairs! My wife and children will be in the bedroom.

And if my dog wants to greet them at the door, well that's between them.
