Here's my version of a commonly made hiking stove. I went to a local hardware store and found a 4" aluminum dryer duct coupler and some aluminum gutter spikes. $2.69 for the aluminum and $0.16 each for the spikes. I punched some air holes around the bottom and experimented with one or two spike arrangments at the top. A small cat food can is used to hold the Esbit fuel tablet. It would be a good idea to put some tin foil under for fire safety and it might reflect a little more heat too. The holes are punched with a regular plier-style paper punch. It weighs 2 ounces-- add Esbit fuel and get cookin'. If you want one that fits in the pot, use flashing and paper clips to hold the diameter you want.

This windscreen/pot stand will work with a pepsi can alcohol stove too. The one shown is a Mini Bull Designs pressurized rig. http://www.minibulldesign.com/fs2.htm and scroll down to the Trek #2 model. $7 for that one.

Dale,
That is a great piece of stove kit you made there. I really like it. Thanks for sharing. Now I off to Home Depot to make one for myself.

I forgot to mention http://zenstoves.net/ -- a great resource for making your own stoves.

Also, spacing between the fuel and pot does make a difference. The jaws of the paper punch limits the depth you can set the pot into the windscreen. If you really want to experiment, you can drill holes or get a hammer-style punch. You can trim the bottom to lower the pot in relation to the fuel or use different cans inside to raise/lower the heat source.

very cool dale.... i have something similar, that a friend made me...

Thanks. Definately not my brainwork, just my local variation. There is a whole subculture of homebuilt stoves and pot stands like this. I love the fine art of applied junque! I mean, gee, think what God did with just a rib....
