3" vs. 4" Sheeple Perception

tirod3 - I've been wrestling with the idea of carrying a 2.5-3" simple blade for loan purposes so I don't frighten the normals. But then I wonder why I'd carry something every day purely for someone else's benefit? *I* don't have a problem using my SOG Vision. ;-)

During work hours, I use my native to take off any growing whiskers so I don't get a five O'clock shadow. They itch my neck. For some reason, people look at me strangely.

I try to avoid human contact, so the blade length thing really doesn't come into play.

Some people carry a small loaner, and it works for them.

I no longer offer my knife at all. In the past I was willing, but lately I just enjoy watching the show, maybe asking if they need a knife, and fetching the store/factory issued ripper after a search - usually misplaced, which is long enough that they get it open.

If they are really struggling, I offer to help, and if they hand it over, I'll used mine palmed and choked on the second choil, finger down to the point, turned away from them. I go slow, and put it up before handing things back.

I don't neeed to flash it around and impress anyone, just act like a responsible old fart getting a job done with the proper tool.

I've had similar reactions from male co-workers. 4" is just plain scary to the brainwashed.

Fixed your posts for you.

first time I saw a BM Skirmish....I thought it was HUGE....way too big for carry...obnoxiously grotesque and so on.

Now it seems "just right"...practically slender compared to my Zero Tolerance 0302....*shrug*....and I'm around knives all day every day!

If I get hit up with a similar question/situation to yours (OP)...I just say...."Ahhh, that's not a knife..." and leave it right there. ;)

In talking to a guy who was in Nam and actually DID do "wet work", I casually mentioned how it must be good to have a big knife.

He replied that the size didn't much matter as much as the SHARPNESS.

yeee-eeeeeeks!

Makes sense. Ya really DON'T hafta go THROUGH someone to kill em.
