Got a small 6 point today. only deer I have seen last 2 times out. Enough meat in freezer now for my family. Back to making knives on weekends I suppose. Not big racks but my first year hunting and I've had fun. Next year I'm trying in a better spot for meat does early.

Marlin 336C
Federal 150 gr .30-30
50 yards
Fell where shot.

Nice little deer, I wish we were aloud to use the .30-.30 to hunt deer here.

Congrats 'Ol Bud ! My grandfather sent a set of Winchester 94's home to my boy's back ove the summer ! I grew up hunting with a Winchester 94 in .32Win. special !

Not a big deer but it will eat well. Isnt that the point anyways??

I prefer the small ones myself. A lot more tender than old doe or buck. At one point I had a huge box of antlers and quite a few on the wall. I never ate a single rack and they don't make good knife handles. Meat deer are my favorites. You did well for your first year. Heck, you did well period!

I'm gung ho about next!! Got new bow ordered and plan on bagging some meat early :)

Looks like good eatin' to me,I have yet to wound a deer with the 30-30 I've tried a couple of different calibers and keep coming back to the old marlin 336w in 30-30.

It just seems right and proper to have a successful hunt with a 30-30 lever gun with iron sights. Did you have on a nice red and black check wool coat too? :D Nice deer, enjoy those backstraps!

blgoode - congrats on a nice deer.

Yes! I'm glad someone else out there has good memories of this rifle/caliber combo. My hunting was with a .30-30 growing up, but a few years ago I bought a 94 in .32 WS, and I haven't been able to get out with it yet. Can't wait until I can.

Orange hat my great-grandfather by merriage gave me. He was in WW2 and 84 I think. :)

I'm glad you're happy with it. Personally, I would have let that little fella pass and get another year's worth of growth on him.

Maybe, but if it's meat you want, that little guy is going to be a lot more tender and a lot tastier than some old gnarly buck.

Glad the Marlin works well. Looks like it did the trick. Hopefully you're enjoying it. Congrats on the deer, too. It will be very tasty, I'm sure.

Im happy. My first year ever deer hunting and I sat about 11 times I think, Didnt see any deer 3 times and missed a doe. Not a shot on several does as it was bow season. Killed 1 buck with bow and 1 with rifle. Next year will be as fun I hope.

50 yards and bullet went in just at the shoulder/neck crease and exited low ribcage behind elbow on other side. Fell in his footsteps.

Federal 150 grains did the trick.

Nice shooting and nice deer
I had one of those 3030 bolt action from Sears years ago always regretted getting rid of it.Nice round
Havent ate any antlers myownself would imagine best you could get would be bitter soup with what they rub and scrape them on
Nothing like a ribsteak off one of those deer better than the backstraps IMO
