.30-30 works good!!!

Backstraps, it's what's for dinner. Now braintan the hide and makes stuff out of the hooves, antlers and bones and have fun trying. Congrats.

I took my first deer with a 30-30 at about 170 yards when I was 14.

People couldn't believe that a 30-30 could be accurate at that far. :D

I think its a great round... And lever guns are always fun.

Nice shooting and nice deer
I had one of those 3030 bolt action from Sears years ago always regretted getting rid of it.

They are fun, I grabbed this Steven 325A in .30-30 on impulse last year real cheap, but about the only thing I can use it on in my state is Coyotes. :(

^ Yeah, Illinois have some strict gun laws. Im there a lot. In Missouri you can carry a loaded gun , or large knife in a vehicle. Better not forget about them when you cross that bridge. The state troopers patrol the cars entering illinois heavily.

My dad has one of those. He has had it for years. Its a great shooting rifle...

He quit hunting for quite a few years, but back when I was still rifle hunting (I switched to Archery about 8 years ago), I talked him into going again.

He hadn't shot it for about 20 years, so I asked if he wanted to go to the range with me, and he said, no it will still shoot fine. I "convinced" him to go with me just to be sure.
He brought along a box of shells that were probably well over 25 years old.
I spotted for him on his first three shots. dead center at 100 yards with iron sights and about 1 1/2 inches apart
I told him, let me see that rifle, I want to shoot it. I put 5 rounds down range at 100 yards, and they were just like his :D

I'm sure your new rifle will serve you well...

Yeah, it was a good catch. I've always liked .30-30, but I have trouble loading lever actions through the loading gate, due to a finder that doesn't bend to good, so when I saw this thing for $125.00, I jumped!!

Have had a little trouble finding a second magazine for it though, between Stevens and Savage, they went through a bunch of changes to the magazines.
