$30 for a gift knife?

A Buck Vantage Select or Avid, nice knives for the value and most of the time you can find them for around $30 shipped.

Kershaw Skyline is USA made and in the price range.

A Vic Farmer would be something that just about everyone can appreciate.

I would go with the all time classic, designed and made in the USA Buck 110 folder available at any Walmart for $30 bucks out the door.

If any of your male family members are hunters they will certainly appreciate it and put it to use.

SAK Huntsman and Ka-Bar Dozier Folding Hunter in this pic... Can't go wrong with either.

+1 on the Opinel and LE Micra.

I gave an engraved #8 inox opinel to my friend as a birthday presents and she said it's the best gift she received that day :)

I don't know who will get it for sure. Some male in my wife's family. They aren't knuts but they are certainly comfortable with and around knives and would/do carry one.

What would you get? I was thinking Leek all the way but it is a little too much. Suggestions?

The method, for those curious: I don't know what this is called but my in laws do the thing where every person (split between male/female) supplies one gift. Random numbers are drawn and you work through the list. Each person can elect to open a gift or steal a gift from somebody that already went. If your gift is stolen you then open a new one. You obviously want to go last as you get choice.

It depends on who you draw.

  • If you draw someone who likes traditionals, you can get a Case small stockman or pen knife with yellow handles for under $30.
  • If you draw someone who likes one-handers, you can get a Byrd, or a Kabar Dozier.
  • If you won't know who you get till the last moment, get an SAK. Those are always appropriate. Only a fool would look down on one.

The new Byrd Cara Cara G10 with flat ground blade is even more convincing than the Tenacious, in my opinion.

SAK's are great knives. I'd look up to anyone which got me one as a gift. I really enjoy my Tinker, its one of the most useful tool that I own.

I would also recommend the Buck Vantage. The small pro and select models are my most carried knives.
