I keep remembering you guys talking about some folder around the $30 range which is very good for it's price and everyone talking about it mentioned that they'd feel perfectly comfortable using it for EDC. Unfortunately, I cannot remember it's name, or anything about it :grumpy: Any ideas? Or anything similar?

Oh boy, I'm really in for it ;p
It's intended to be a father's day gift (before I get any flames for being so cheap, lol, his birthday was fairly recently ago and I already did something nice for him ;p). $30 range was what I was thinking.
EDIT: It might have been a Kershaw...

$30 is fine for an EDC thats going to be used on packages, fingernails, pencils and fruit.

There are many choices. For $30 you can find a NIB Delica by Spyderco on one of the for sale forums or a good swiss army knife new even.

Wal-Mart sells many in that price range also from Kershaw to Buck to Gerber. Most of them will be 420HC or 440A steel blades. That's why I'd go for the like new Spyderco Delica in VG 10 steel. Much better edge holding and an overall better knife especially for resale.

Kershaw Vapor? (Walmart $19.95) Kershaw Vapor II? (WalMart $25-ish, I think). I carry my Vapor everyday. Cheap enough that you don't have to worry about losing or damaging it, and a very good knife for this amount of money, IMHO. I'm especially impressed with the smoothness with which it opens.

Buck 110 at Academy for the same $30 without directly supporting Big W's 'China is cheaper' policies.... as much..... God, I detest Wal-Mart. :grumpy:

It was probably the Ka-Bar Dozier.

However just to put another thought ....

Might want to consider a SAK AND an Opinel #8 - that gives something readily recognized as HIGH quality to put in the pocket for EDC and another knife for those other tasks that one might be reluctant to use even an inexpensive EDC.

If you think he might like scissors then the Victorinox Compact (model # 54941)

can be found for about $21 using froogle.com

Without scissors (who needs then when one has a knife?) - the Victorinox Waiter is a very nice knife (model # 53891)

found for about $11.............

Actually the aluminum handled Bantam Alox is a very elegant and slim knife (model # 53949)

about $12.

then add the Opinel #8 in stainless (my preference for low maintenance) or plain carbon - for about $9 -
