$30 knife?

Perhaps you should start all over and tell us what kind of knife you're looking for... Slipjoint folder? Lockback? Fixed blade? Classic or modern?

Good Luck with your quest,
Bob

He already has a SAK on his keychain. I was thinking of a lockback folder, something practical and good for around-the-house chores, yardwork, etc, in the $30 range.

Any of the FIVE Kabar Doziers would be GREAT...
Probably the best thing you can get for under $50.00 ... Some would say for under $100.00!

I just received a Spyderco Byrd, model BY01BMP (plain edge). It is strong, sharp, very comfortable, and it looks good. Except for a paper thin gap between the spine and one liner, the fit and finish are really good. At $15.95 from New Graham, you can spring for both the plain edge and the serrated edge (BY01BMS)! I also have a Cara Cara, and my mother-in-law has a Meadowlark. Both would be good choices for an all steel knife.

nominate the Swedish EKA 88. They can be had for $30 from Ragweed Forge. Wood handle is handfilling but light in the pocket. The thin Sandvik blade cuts like a razor. And it's not too likely to freak anyone out.
