Thanks to everyone who recommended searching Craig'slist daily.... It paid off. $1.20 per# :thumbup:

300# A matchbook's thickness of sway, but mostly only where the edge is mushroomed slightly. I'll pien it back...

I'll post better pictures after I clean it up.

BTW, listed at 10PM, in my truck at 8AM. I've been checking daily for 6 months. It's how I found my 129# Kohlswa.... :D:D

I also got 2 sets of Wolfjaw tongs almost new for $40. :)

She's a beauty. Love my Fisher...she's a 126 # lightweight and does just fine. Congrats!

No expert here but I would grind away instead of peening it back up the sides. Never heard of doing it that way.
I am curious, the horn seems short to me. Is it a feature of Fisher anvils?

Good eye... It's missing an inch or so of the horn. The guys on Iforge were talking about piening the edges.. It might not be worth it.....The guy had a pile of tongs, a farriers vice with foot pedal(whatever they are called) and a big blown forge if anyone's interested in the Portland area...

Should work well. The foot vise is called a calkin vise. It is used to put the calkins ( sort of like cleats) on horseshoes.

Just today I got a new sign for the shop ( see sign thread). While picking it up at my friends BBQ place, a customer came over to see what we had. When he heard that I made knives, he said he had something I might be able to use....An anvil and a welders layout table ,AKA acorn table. I asked what he wanted for them, and he said if I would bring a truck over in a couple weeks, he would load them on and give them to me. Right now they are buried under stuff in his old metal shop. I took his number and will call him in a week to make arrangements.

Moral of the story is that there are many anvils out there. You just have to find them.
 
I have a 300 lb Fisher and the horn on it is probable 3 or 4 inches longer than this one. If you are interested I can measure its full length and let you know. They are a wonderful anvil to forge on. The surface is very responsive and they are quite as well.

Great find Brian. I would have had a real hard time passing that one up and I have a 250lb Fisher. Although it is probably only 290 lbs with that short horn,.:p

It's a 12"x24" or so kind of half domed.... It's got a flat bottom because he was a blacksmith and did leaf bowls etc.

If it was closed up a bit it'd do nicely... It's a blown forge, self built. He had it split to two outlets though I'm not sure how well that'd work.. It's be good for welding up billets. I expect it'd burn a little too much fuel for individual blades?
It's on Craigslist Portland. He has tongs, hammers, spring swages too. I expect he's come down in price. I got him down on the anvil, but didn't think less than 1.00 a pound would be fair to him....He'd likely make a deal on the forge, especially if it doesn't sell.

It still has the $600.00 price from when he bought it a couple years ago....but, he sold it to me cheaper because it was used....;):D:cool:

Here it is cleaned up.. I lightly cleaned up the mushroomed sides after consulting a couple guys on Iforgeiron. I then slathered it in diesel and then wire wheeled it.
I believe it is actually missing several inches from the horn. It looks like from the gouges that it was cleaned up and fixed with a chisel, so my guess is the repair was a long time ago.

For reference, I set my 119# Kohlswa on top of it.

The rebound is around 90-95% over the entire face. One are near the hardie hole that's maybe 85%...The awesome thing is the ring, or should I say the lack of... I picked up twenty 1-1/4" steel bearings Friday so I just happened to have one in my pocket. The ring from the Kohlswa to the Fisher is night and day! :D

The date on it is 1913

I am sooo happy!:):)
