Maybe it's just me, but I just don't think Buck does a great job of marketing. Makes great knives, but not so great in getting them out there. Examples, the last Bucklite Paperstone knives, had it not been for the internet, I wouldn't have known they existed. But I could go to any Walmart and buy a Bantam. Had the paperstone been in a display case I think it would have been more successful. I can go to any Walmart and buy a Chinese Buck stockman, but I can't remember the last time I have seen a 300 series Buck in a store. And the the Chinese Buck stockmans are only a few dollars cheaper than the 300 series.
Also, Case can make a slipjoint in any flavor of scale you would want. You wouldn't think it would be that expensive for buck to at least offer different colors of valox/delrin 300 series. Maybe if it cost too much to tool up, offer the 300 in say red delrin/valox for say 2018, and then change the color to something different for 2019 and change it up every year. This would create a collectors market for them and folks would try to buy a different color each year. The 300 series are popular with people that like and collect slipjoints, I think, but with just the black, folks pretty much just buy one and are done. With Case, people have more options to collect.
But I think Buck is more available online and have the opinion that people don't buy knives in person anymore, I think they have forgotten the hunters that would still buy the right knife at the Walmart display counter when they are buying a hunting license.
