Out of habit, checked the discontinued bin at a local Wallyworld tonight and found a PolyPearl Cadet for $9.00. Carried an old 303 for years a long time ago, so decided this one had to be worth $9.00. Backsprings are not quite as strong as the old one (still have it, though the blades are pretty worn), and it doesn't seem to be as finely finished, but the fine finish on my old one may be from years of carry. Blade grinds are totally different. I suspect my old one was made by Camillus, but not sure. Not sure this one will get carried very much, as I have several pocket knives that I really like. But, it looks good, and would make someone a nice Christmas gift if I decide I don't want to carry it. This particular Wallyworld has given up several nice knives at attractive prices. The truth of the matter is I don't need a knife larger than a 303 for most of my uses. Vaquero

Where abouts are you from and where did they have the bargain bin at the store?

The reason I ask is because here in Jersey, the "knife display" is just a big picture of all the knives and I doubt they would have any out in a bin on the floor.

Thanks for the heads-up :)

the stores usually have a box of discontinued stuff behind the counter. it pay to have a outdoors friendly sales associate, they know the tricks and i've had them drag out the box when i'm walking up.

Walmart also currently has a Buck knives exclusive, the 728 fixed blade.

I'm from Cincinnati, Ohio, and most of the local area Wal*Marts Sporting Goods Departments have a section in their display case with reduced-priced items. Right now it seems that mostly Schrade knives are in the reduced-price display, but I have recently been able to find very good prices on Buck Diamondback 4.25s and Alpha Folding Hunters there. Wal*Mart's reduced-priced knives aren't advertised, and the availability varies from store to store, so I'd suggest looking at several different Wal*Marts to see what they have to offer.

Thanks for the info:)

The post by Powell pretty much explains what I called the "discontinued bin" for want of a better description. Most of the WalMarts (I live in La) I've checked have these areas in a showcase in the sporting goods dept. It's hit or miss, but sometimes it really pays off. Can make shopping for a Christmas present for your knife collecting son-in-law pretty cheap. Vaquero

Mike,
Occasionally, the WalMart on Route 22 has discontinued knives in the back of their glass display case, behind the register. Of course, it takes 4 years for them to find someone who has a key...
