How do you make 336 layer damascus - as I've seen describing a knife.

Don't you make damascus by folding over the metal - so it needs to be a power of 2? Mathematically speaking.

not if you slip in an additional piece betwenn when you fold.

ex. one piece of stee and:

fold once= 2, fold twice and add a piece= 5,

Or wled and draw out the billet, chop it into whatever number of pieces you can handle and make a new billet. Generally speaking you are going to start with an odd number of layers if you are using thin 15N20. You will have one less layer of it than the thicker stock.

Start with a seven layer billet, fold X4, cut into three, weld and draw.
7/14/28/56/112/336
or start with 28, cut into four and weld, cut into three and weld
28/112/336

Starting with a 21 layer billet that is drawn and cut into 5 pieces and re welded you have 105 layers. Not divisible by 2.
