$355 for a Buck 651 "Pigsticker"????

I didn't check it out, as I was just interested in seeing what it looked like.

There's a few 651's still running around out there, not sure why anyone would shell out $455 for one though:eek:. Somebody must have really needed that one and also there was a second runner-up as well bidding it up too. I've seen a price jump in a few of the Nighthawks lately, a 653 tanto sold for over $150 recently on fleabay. Yup, that was a very lucky seller on that one indeed!

I guess my Nighthawks are like money in the bank. Even for almost $400 profit, I think I will keep my 651 Pigsticker.

I'm thinking kinda like you too. I have nearly all of the variants of the Nighthawks stowed away ~there's just something appealing about them to me and the build out Buck/Striders. I wish I'd bought a couple more of the 651's when they were selling in the -$100 range awhile back on ebay now!!

No indications of shill bidding.

I suppose it's possible that the particular pigsticker in question was a desirable variation that only a very sophisticated collector would recognize......and a couple of them did.

It wouldn't be the first time such a thing has been the explanation for an unusually high price.

I tend to think it's probably just that there are a few people out there running around with more money than they know what to do with.

Great Grandma would have said "I'm having the vapors"

Two of these things sitting over on the shelf. Maybe I better go put them in the toy box.

Just a little thing I have noticed. It takes two or more to run a knife to $ 455. Within a day or less one is available for $ 269 so my question is. Why isn't the second place buying it with a smile on his face ? Makes one wonder.

That's a good Q, Shazam.

Is it still unbought at $269???

If so there are a couple of possibilities.

1. It actually was a rare variation that only a couple of collectors recognized.
2. After his "BWI" (bidding while intoxicated) the buyer canceled his bid and second chance offers were all turned down.

Otherwise, as you say.......hard to explain why one is sitting there unbought at about half the price the other went for.

Here's a thought......sometimes a guy with several to sell will stage a fake auction with friends bidding on it to make people think prices are skyrocketing on his particular knife or even just to salt the completed items with a record of one that went real high.

The one seller seems to have a few, I suppose you noticed.

This question has a very simple answer. I have bought and sold well over 800 items on that site.

A simple search in ended listings, and yep, it all boils down to shipping. Supply and demand.

No conspiracy or anything else. You ship global (or out of USA at least) and you just opened up a huge market. Second place bidder was probably out of USA also and this one pigsticker left for sale is USA only shipping. I had a few 119's I sold there years ago, and couldnt figure out why they sold great with global shipping.... and then one day it dawned on me.... :D

Some items are even more rare overseas than here, and there are Buck collectors world wide!! ;)

That's correct.

There are really two prices on e-Bay--American price and world price. The world price can be and often is a lot higher.

Higher risk comes with the higher prices, though.

I'll second that experience...usually ends up well worth my while to fill out a few papers at the Post Office

Some days ago I found a Pig Sticker in the Beach and
bought it for an acceptable amount. I asked the seller wherefrom he got the knife.
He told me that he bought it from the German agency of Buck.

A look at the Hompage shows that the 651 is still offered --- officially. It seems, Buck gave some
pig sticker to the German seller up for sale. A sticker on the Box says "not for sale in the USA or in Canada".
Does anybody know more?

Best,
Haebbie

O.k., Ed, actually I wanted to keep it secret. But if you like ...
I paid roundabout 90 bucks for the Buck NIB.

The officially offered Pig Sticker are on sale for about 135 USD.

I got mine when they appeared on the bay a couple of years ago. I paid $57.15 with shipping.
