36" single bit axe I have just rehung. (Pic Heavy!)

Two words.

Rubber mallet

Hit the fawns foot with the mallet and the axe head will be drawn up onto the haft. A white rubber mallet leaves no marks behind. I use one every time.
good advice, i split a nice fawns foot using a wooden mallet.

I use the same mallet, but the wooden mallet gets it that last 1/4 inch onto the haft and tightens everything up. I use a baby sledge sometimes but not too many hits. in the early days, I split a couple of hafts overdoing it with the baby sledge. I have found that when I shape the haft correctly, I can slide the head on most of the way and a few taps with the rubber mallet, followed by a couple of smacks with the wooden mallet or baby sledge seals the deal.

Unique to the world of commerce (except maybe in France) the entire construction and manufacturing industry in Province of Quebec closes down for one week mid-July every year. Maybe one of the office staff or sales reps can sneak you into the factory then.
It sure would be nice to be able to hand-pick your own handles!

Here is the official responce...

Bonjour M. Bordeleau,

In short, they dont want pesky non workers taking videos of their top secret handle making process, for security reasons, of course ;)

Boy I really feel for you guys. Are the French language and customs so threatened by the 'Anglais' that mere 'Garant et fils' doesn't want visitors? Top secret (securite et de confidentialite) manufacture is BS. They make wood handles, pressed steel blades and extruded plastics.
I'm of Dutch descent and every Dutchman is immensely proud of their language but all through school learns to be fluent in English. Not because the language is threatened but because we know which side of our bread is buttered should we choose to join the global economy.

I love Québec, but this province is FUBAR as far as I can tell, syndicats and security freaks have taken over this place, just look at how they want to inplant a long gun registry after Canada abolished it, shameful...

Anyhow, I thought it could have been an easy PR shot for them, i would have made them a cool youtube video but it seems like they dont understand the way PR works nowadays, or dont care.
