$360 for a piece of steel?

Actually $360 isn't half bad at all. Consider how much work it takes to work with INFI and to make a knife out of it, and its probably more man hours/blade then a lot of equivalently priced blades.

And for sure a lot more work then most $150 dollar fixed blades.

The problem with Busse price is only when you buy one second hand due to the collector mark up. So if you like a particular knife that is no longer in production, chances are there is somebody who also likes it ,and wants 27 of them in his area 51 whorehouse. But if you want a good tool there is usually one available through bussecombat or companystore that will fit your needs at a perfectly reasonable price, if not just wait a little and it will be. Alternatively you can fork out extra $$$ for a knife you actually want or you can do what most hogs do, squeal and squeal and squeal and squeal like there is no tomorrow, hoping Jerry will sober up for a minute and take note of your Boss Jack request.

I love reading posts like this. Prepare for more expensive purchases and congrats on a great score

There may not be as much hand work/man hours as you think. As far as we know, the blade blanks are cut out by laser or water jet, then they go to a CNC machine for major stock removal. I think heat treat is next, and that adds cost because of how long the HT cycle is, including an extending cryogenic treatment. It's expensive to keep things that cold. Finish grinding may well be done by machine, followed by the powder coating and cure. Scales are done by CNC. Satin and DCBB finishes would get more extensive hand work. Final sharpening is done by hand.

The major cost is the INFI itself, and the HT. My personal speculation is that the military orders are lower margin, but paid for the major production expansion a few years ago, and keep the lights on now. The consumer orders for us are icing on the cake.

True, I thought about that but then I thought about other manufacturers and thought that INFI probably takes more time to make a knife out of.

Just consider CR, Strider, Extrema ratio, MercWorx fixed blades and the Bussy Combat Prices don't look sky high anymore.
