hi all,

may be the matured among us remember this beauty of the late 1980ies:

Mercedes 380SL https://www.google.de/search?q=380s...4CIPGtAbw1ujxBg&ved=0CEMQsAQ&biw=1152&bih=678

a status-symbol for the upperclass gentleman and the dream of the suburb-wannabees...
this knife, built for my next show, might have been the same some hundred years ago:

W1 forged
clayhardened
bronze-subhilt and -butt
striped gidgee
total: 38 cm
sharp: 22cm
thickness 6,5-2,0mm

thanks for looking!

gerhard

ps: that strange titel?
380mm long and Slime Line.....;)

Now that is a SEXY knife!!! I love the racing stripes running down the spine. :cool::thumbup:

Grace and beauty always stand the test of time. This has as much grace and beauty as one sees on Blade Forums. A beautiful piece!

Knife and Sheath Beautiful as always.
Thanks for giving us a look!

As for the SL here's one (300SL-Gullwing) a little older and one of the most desired classic sportscar models on the planet.

your work fills me with inspiration and discouragement at the same time;):D:thumbup:

I need to come up with a standard response for your work that allows me to express how each piece you post is an amazing work of art that just blows me away. Then I can just cut-and-paste it into each new post you do and save me some time. :D

Very nice, as usual.

That Gidgee wood is beautiful!

Kind regards,

Jos

thank you all for posting,
I`m glad you like my knife!

@kevin,
the 300SL gullwing is a timeless icon, that´s true.
I would have choosen it for my title, but the 300ccm didn´t match the length (380mm) of my knife... :-(

@jos,
this piece of gidgee is the best I ever got- it has an unbelievable tight stripe.
wished I had more of this quality.

best regards
gerhard

Extraordinary lines and carving.....beautiful work!

I remember the 380SL's quite well as I was selling them at that time, circa 1985-1986, and drove one for a demo.....quite the little peeler for it's day. :)

Absolutely fantastic Gerhard. This is one of my favorites from you so far. The individual details are great (I especially enjoy the butt-cap with your mark)... but it's the overall flow of the knife from tip to tail that I find really appealing. And, as Jos said, that gidgee ain't bad either.

Folks, I bought the last one that Gerhard posted and must say that it is even nicer in person.
Great fit and finish, great design and sharp!
I see a lot more of his work coming my way!

That has got to be one of the most elegant knives I´ve ever seen. All dimensions in perfect harmoni. It makes me a little sad however, cause I know I´ll never be able to make something this beautifull, even if I tried for the next 30 years.:applause:

thank you all for your kind words,
I appreciate it so much!

@ ellis,
dave, thanks for your statement- this means a lot to me!

@gody,
I know these feelings- I often feel the same, when I see the masterpieces of some guys here...

best regards
gerhard
