So I have just discovered what an awesome steel 3v is as far as toughness goes. I would like to get a small stout fixed blade in 3v to edc along with my spyderco endura. I would like some suggestions on brands to look at that fall into (or close to) my requirements.

What I'm looking for:
3v steel
Around 4mm or thicker blade
2.5 - 4" length
Decent sheath included
Budget is a max of $240

Scott Gossman sells a UNK which is nice. I just bought one this week. I think he has a second one up for sale. 5/32" thick 3v.

I can vouch for the GSO 3.5 as an awesome smaller fixed blade.

Additionally, my go to edc fixed blade is a Koster Scout, which fits your criteria almost perfectly on the smaller end.

It is a small knife, especially if you have bigger hands, but I've found it more than capable.

The Bark River Gunny fits those specs. I have the CPM-3V clip point scandi-convex version that is 8.375" OA with a 3.75" blade that is 4mm thick.

I saw a thread on the GBU about a maker named G.E Chen who has a semi-custom CPM3V fixed blade for under $200

How about the Koster edc? Its a bit thicker than you would want, but is 3v and comes in a variety of sizes that fall just short of your price point with the sheath included. They would be even cheaper if you picked one up on the exchange that is basically new.

I'm pretty sure Bark River does some of their smaller stuff in 3V - definitely worth a look as they have quite a nice selection of smaller fixed blades currently.

Ever eat burned food?

3V has that potential. You are primarily buying the reputation skill of the maker(s).

Every steel has that potential so the point is pointless. And I think he was asking for good knives/makers which would make your second point pointless...I guess I fail to understand your post.:D

Sorry. :p

But people come to General all the time wanting to buy a raw material. The kind thing is to do what you did - suggest a good maker.

The survive knives are pretty popular right now, like the flavor of the month and pretty hard to get.

I don't know about a 4mm blade for the GSO 3.5 ,a bit thick. My 3.5 is a fine knife ,a keeper !
