im making a heavy duty framelock and need to choose a blade steel. so im in between s30v or 3v.....or any other reccomendations. frame is 3/16 6al4v ti on the locking side and g10 on the other. i want only high end materials on this folder.

any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Well the S30V is seeing a lot of use. It is difficult to work to a good finish but many are doing it. I'm just finishing a double bladed, both front opening, liner lock with blades 3 3/4 long. It is a birthday present for my son who spends a lot of time in the bush both hunting and fishing. I know the areas he hunts and fishes well. I figure the S30V was the best choice since it is a stainless but most of all has a great reputation for good erge holding. Wish I could do pictures for you. I used some mammoth bone for the scales. I would personally LOVE a 3V tank of a folder. S30V is nice and all, but everyone and their uncle is using it these days. Be nice to see a real workhorse steel in a folder.

I say go for the 3V! Both steels are very good of course. 3V's corrosion resistance is really good with cryo and low temper. It has a tendency to pit when you use high temper.

I am no expert but wouldn't you want to include it's intended use and environment in which it will be used ?

its for cutting stuff, big stuff, the kind of stuff that doesnt want to be cut. think of like caloused rhino hide.
