I am considering getting a 4-5" heavy-duty knife for chores, hunting, camping, etc. I want one of the 1/4 thick models. My choices so far are the Entrek Bravo or the EESE-5.

Opinions Please?

If you want a thick knife that really cuts, Bark River's Bravo-1 should be considered.

If you want a 1/4" stock knife. I think you would be very happy with the Kabar Becker BK-2. The ESEE knives are just fine. I have an ESEE-4. I don't know much about the Entrek Bravo. The Bark River Bravo is a pretty nice blade as mentioned above.

Honestly my most-used woods knife is a Condor Rodan and I find it more than tough enough for anything I've thrown at it. But for something on the thicker side the BK-2 or the ESEE-5 would be just dandy.

Doesn't get much more "heavy duty" than the BK-2. IMO

I like ESEE knives but the 5's handle lacks a little in the back of the grip for me. It's hard to chop with it. I much prefer the grip of the BK-2. I don't know anything about the Entrek, but I hear nothing but good about them overall. Personally I'd get a Bravo-1 in A2.

+1 on the Bravo-1, very comfortable handle, you can get it in A2, 3V, or S35VN, and despite its thickness, the convex uncoated edge will really go through wood well.

Would you be interested in chisel grind?

The BK2 is probably your best bet for the dollars.
I would never second guess the skill and wisdom of Mr. Becker, but I do think he could of named it "The Bulldog". Oh yeah .

I have high hopes for the BHK Lumberjack toothpick. I just ordered it, I am sure it will be worth the wait.
