4 awesome days in the Sierra Dialup beware)

Nice shots, thanks for sharing. Something about a well used knife, your NWA knife looks really sweet.

Man awesome pics! Makeing me really anxious to get up to the sierras, haven't gotten up there yet this year.

Were at in the Sierras were you?
Southern sierras?
East side/West side?

Man, 10,000ft?! I've been wanting to hike up past 9,000 for a long time, but I usually go with my dad(gettin old) and my wife(not sure if she would last an all day hike). Any Golden trout in the area you were at? That's the main reason I wanna go past 9,000ft is for a chance at some goldens, probably gonna be hard for me though since I'm not sure how many goldens are in the northern/central Sierras were we go.

Oh man i love that part for backpacking... Im planing to go there my self with in the next 2 months. Did you stop in one place or did you just keeped on moving every day. I do agree with you that hike up the mountain is a killer takes me about 3 hours to get up there. Im not sure but using the GPS i think it was about 4 miles and 90% is going up a steep hill. Looking at the pics i cant but smile just thinking of how much fun it is being there. Tknife i know how you feel when you come back from there. Up there everything is so simple. Comming back to the city and things just hit you from every direction and everything need to be done now.
I got some pics that look as i made a copy of your pics the two of us might have stoped on the same spot within a few feet lol.

Sasha

tknife: Thank you so much for the pictures. Finally, someone who can take and post a decent image. You must be one of the very few that have read the directions that came with the camera and learned how to set the exposer. I get so tired of looking at all of the grossly underexposed black blobs passing as pictures. It's a pleasure to see good, properly exposed pictures.

Horsehoe Meadow is in the eastern Sierra. I've been all around that area, and this part is my favorite. If you get a chance, it's worth to head into this area, there's so much to see.
We originally wanted to head into the Cottonwood Lakes area, but decided to go check out Chicken Spring lake instead. We planned on camping there, but there was a large group of people who were doing the PCT through hike that were there. Plus the mosquitos were fierce! So we just ate lunch and relaxed a while at the lake, then headed toward Whitney Meadow and made camp.
I'm right there with ya sasha! I didn't want to come home. If I ever have the money, I'd like to buy some land in Lone Pine and live right at the base there. That's my goal anyway.
We saw a lot of small goldies, none were over a few inches though. In the next couple months there will be plenty, and I'd love to snag a few. The stream heading to the Cottonwood Lakes is bigger has a lot more trout in it.
Thanks for the kind words on my pics. I am far from a great photo taker, the scenery makes it easy to get away with though :)

great photos, looks like you had a great time, and the knives look like they are getting some use.

Thanks for sharing your trip.

Nice knives, pictures, and those boots are sweet!
I might have to move out there.....

Eric

Hell yeah! Nicely polished safe queens are nice but there's just something about a dirty a$$/broken in knife that just appeals to me. I had to split some wood with my Howler just to give it some character.:D

Looks great! One of my trips that I have planned for this summer is to take a scout troop from Horseshoe Meadow over Whitney to Whitney Portal. There is too much to see in the Sierra!

You can tell that it has been a very dry year - no snow visible anywhere. At this time last year there would have been plenty still.

What an awesome time you must have had! Yep, a large do-it-all blade coupled with a smaller precise cutter (wharncliffe to boot!), there's probably nothing you can't handle with such a combo.

Looks like a blast!! Nice pictures ..... thanks for sharing them.

Were you able to catch any of those trout and have them for a meal? Did you have a fishing pole or line of some sort?

Fantastic pics - I'm sat in the basement at work, logging computer faults. I'm so jealous!

That NWA knife looks a good user... Is that a nice patina it's developing there?

Rick.

Thanks for all the kind words guys! Yup it was the dryest I have seen it up there. There were patches of snow up on the higher peaks, but usually there would be snow on parts of the trail and lower areas too. Horseshoe Meadow is usually nice and green.

I have been using the NWA knife for everything for a month now, and it's really got a nice patina going. It stayed dirty on this trip, lots of sap that was hard to scrape off. Nick told me how to make it look new again, but I think I like it just the way it is :D

Awsome photo's, hey those boots look cool, wonder where I have seen them before lol, hope they are working out for ya.

Man I cant wait, im heading up there in mid July, the wait is driving me nuts.

Great pics of beautiful country. I haven't hiked anything west of the Rockies but you are tempting me.

You are right about the hooahs/field towels, they make trail hygiene so much easier.

I'd love to hear a littel more about the boots. How did they perform in comparison to boots specifically designed for backpacking?

Thanks again for the heads up on the boots, I like them a lot. I only had two weeks of break in before the trip, so I also brought along my light trail shoes. I alternated wearing both, and didn't have any foot problems at all. The leather is still just a little stiff, but they get more comfy every day. :D

Awesome pics bro, that looks a great place ! I could actually imagine taking off my heavy hiking boots for a dip in that water.!!!

Glad you enjoyed the trip !!!
