4 blems for 10/22 -- no pix but good deals.

I read on that thread:

"Give it some good wacks on both sides of the blade as well as the spine against a tree or something."

Does that mean I am supposed to whack the side of the blade to test it as well as the edge part and the spine opposite that? In other words, all 4 sides?

I never heard about these having to be tested.

Thanks, Shane

You've got the basic testing concept.

The idea is that you don't want to trust your life or body parts (or those of bystanders) to something that you haven't tried out in a semi-controlled environment. Chances are REAL good that nothing will happen, but...

It's not just for khuks. You wouldn't take a gun into the field without taking it to the range first.

You seem to be thorough, so I'm assuming that you've read the safety thread, too.

Thanks much!

And yes, I have been to the safety thread. It looks like these things can put an ouchy on ya!! :)

Welcome to the Psycho Ward Shane!!!!:D

Yup, that's what it means. Just beat the livin' shlt out of it in every which direction!!!! If it doesn't break then it's good for 100 years, maybe 200 depending on how whoever inherits it on down the tree treats it.:D
BUT be very careful while you are testing it just in case the tang should break and the blade go flying to parts uncontrollable.
Bill broke the point off of a Sirupati a long while back, but that was because he was pissed and hit it extremely hard on the concrete patio. ;) :D

And when Bill broke the tip off it went flying and hit Yangdu right above and between the eyes. It devastated Bill and shamed him no end that his anger led to actions that hurt someone he loved even by misadventure and without any intention.

I add this to impress on you the need for due care and caution whenever you handle a khuk, not to embarass Uncle ( though it probably doesn't hurt him to be reminded to be careful either ).

The reason for this test is mostly that the kamis are off for a month during Dasein ( or Dasheera ) and outside of Birghorka if you don't work, you don't eat. So they work extra hard to get a stockpile sent over here to last through the month's orders. Their haste sometimes means the tang gets hardened and results in cracks letting the blade and handle separate.

So that's right, we are telling you to abuse and deliberately try to break the khuk as soon as you get it. If it fails, it gets replaced. If not, it's earned your trust. If it gets scuffed, it can be polished back to pristine shape.

Red, no I'm not off to Russia. I never been there, so you might have me confused with someone else. I'm going in next week to get a hip replacement. I sure am going to miss checking in on things here. It's become sort of a habit.

Ben,

I STILL think the hip knob would be a great knife handle butt. Talk about being "one" with your knife!

You be good in that hospital place, hear?:)

At the show last weekend I saw a ball-joint unit
(small- probably shoulder assuming an adult)
shaped into a blade that had a kerabit feel to it.
It was sharpened inside the curve.
Forefinger notch to index the grip.

You probably will. Even some of the sheeple in my life think they're pretty cool. The best part is that you won't have to wait too long. There will be a box, waiting at your residence for you in a few short days. UB does not waste any time in getting these things in the mail:D
