Andy asked me to come up with a Bushcraft style pouch sheath for his 4" Bushcraft type knives. The 1st batch is on it's way to him right now. Figure I would share a few pictures of the Prototype sheaths while we wait for Andy to get the sheaths.

Some details about the sheaths, they are made from 10-12oz Brown Saddle Skirting, This is thick, strong leather. Edges are finished in black. Hand stitched with heavy duty waxed nylon thread. The Belt loops fit up to a 2" belt. They are finished with Montana Pitch Blend Leather dressing. I also have a pattern that fits the Ladyfinger.

Here are some Prototype 4" Bushcraft sheaths:

Here are a few Production Ladyfinger sheaths that are on their way to Andy. Except for the one on the right, I kept that one for my self. ;)

You'll be able to get these sheaths from Andy with a knife (stand alone is probably an option? Andy??) and also from me. I'll be offering custom options including Dangler Loops, firesteel loops and Black sheaths (Mahogany and Chestnut in the future).

These sheaths will be going for $40 with a knife. I'm also listing them at $40 + shipping. Custom options will add to the cost.

Feel free to email/PM me with any questions or to custom order a sheath. Thanks for looking!!

Deep sheath - thick clean leather - even looking stitching - (I can't see the edging but it looks like you take your time) - 40 dollars is a STEAL on these.

Andy's work will be safe in these - and I think the leather will last forever.

Good work.

Andy

I agree with Tal. Those are a steal. Great job Heber. Lots of Fiddleback leather rolling out of Utah. :D

I'm real glad to be working with Heber on this. His edges, BTW are very nice. The sheaths are simple and sexy. Very bushcrafty. Heber will be able to make some for y'all with firesteel loops upon request as well.

My intention with the sheaths is to sell them with my knives, just as I have done before with sheaths. If you have a Fiddleback and call me to get one I'll likely sell it to you if I have extra around. Keep in mind that I need the sheaths for the knives I make, so I won't be just selling them to whomever wants a sheath for some other random knife. IMO, that business should go directly to the man.

Let me say that I feel really blessed to work around the sheathmakers that have been hanging out at this forum. I like that there is a pretty good spread of options available for my work. Thanks guys.

Thanks Andy! I'm glad to be working with you on this also. :) Got another batch in progress that I hope to have off to you before the weekend.

Gent's if you want a sheath with out the knife, Email or PM me. I'm going to work at having the standard sheaths instock and will be ready to make some customs when ever your ready to order them. ;)

Thanks for the compliments! A simple, strong sheath for a reasonable price is what I aimed for. Am glad you guys like it! :)

Just out of curiosity, can a finished sheath like this be wet formed to a particlar knife or will that affect the dye and finish of the leather??

Thanks! :)

Yes, a finished sheath can be wet formed to a given knife. I build the ones for Andy to a generic pattern so that they fit all oh his 4" bladed knives. A customer can wet form his sheath to his given knife if they would like to. All you need to do is oil the knife, wrap it in Plastic Wrap, then Soak the sheath in warm to hot water (in a pan/pot is normally best) for 2 to 5 minutes or until the leather is soft enough to shape. Once you wet form the leather, let the sheath dry for a few days (the inside takes a lot longer to dry then the outside) then apply a coat or two of your favorite leather dressing if you like. A natural Mink oil or Bees waxed based dressing is best IMO. The dressing after wet forming is optional but highly recommended.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! :)

I used to wet form all of my blades to JRE sheaths and Sharpshooters, this will be no different - Heber is money with his instructions and I think Andy and he have really hit on a viable solution to a great sheath / blade combo.

Herber mentioned a Bee's wax based dressing - I would mention Montana Pitch Blend if I could.

I am excited to see this relationship - I think it will be great for the Fiddleback Family.

All of my sheaths get at least 2 coats of Montana Pitch Blend leather dressing before I send them off. Probably heared about it first from you TF. :)

Thanks for the compliments. I hope this combo/joint venture works out for everyone. :)

Oil or paste?

Montana Pitch Blend Leather Dressing is like a cream. Seems mostly like a solid until it comes in contact with body heat, then it melts and spreads more like an oil (think Mink oil). IMO it smells good too.

If your sheaths have two coats of MPB - you all won't have to worry for some time.

Use the Montana Pitch Blend "Leather Dressing". Depending on the temp - it is more paste - or more like Vaseline . Here in Houston it is always like Vaseline.

Paste is probably a better word to describe the dressing. :)

That's it. I just ordered some MPB. I've gotta see how it compares to the stuff I have.
