4 Cold Steel knives the everyman should have

If a person could only have 4 knives this pretty much covers you. This is my first ever post so maybe I will discover this forum is mostly about folding knives, but choosing more than 2 folders makes zero sense to me.

1.) Safe Maker 2 (or Urban Edge)
2.) Recon 1
3.) Trail Master (or Recon Scout)
4.) Tai Pan (or Magnum Tanto 7.5” or 9”)

Well rounded choices man. Nice first post. :)

Dont know why this thread made it to my feed but I'd like to throw in my two cents, with my limited time with Cold Steel knives

1) Tuff Lite
2) Pocket Bushman
3) SR1-Lite
4) Large Luzon

Tuff lite for most work, Pocket Bushman for bigger work, SR1-Lite for tougher work, and Large Luzon cause you need something impressive! LoL

+1 on the Luzon, would love to see a premium version of this knife, would buy.

Holy necro thread Batman. Just joking, I appreciate you.

Cool list man. Check out classic Cold Steel’s fixed blades too. They’re well worth it at decent prices. I still have my SRK and Recon Tanto with me.

Has anyone mentioned the SRK-C yet?
Don’t have the C but I have the standard SRK. IMO, the standard SRK is plenty compact enough as a jack of all trades knife. The C is smaller, but either of those knives won’t fit in your pocket anyway.

I’d take the regular SRK as a belt knife.

Ive considered multiple and there are a bunch on my wish list. What sucks is in California, cant carry a fixed blade concealed, but no limit to length of a folder. So ive carried the large Luzon before. But overall, i think my first folder will probably be the SRK to match with my SR1- Lite 😀

Decided to come up with a utilitarian list that would be useful to every gentleman regardless of profession, age, or budget range. Be it for EDC, house chores, recreational camping, urban survival, or last resort self-defense, I think at least one of these knives should fit those roles. Hope it’s an entertaining read.

Tuff Lite - Whether it’s the regular size or the mini, this is a capable work knife priced extremely well. Good application of the wharncliffe blade, small enough to toss in the pocket, inclusion of the Tri-Ad lock—plenty of things going for this little guy. Easy knife to recommend to someone looking for an inexpensive, compact workhorse.

SRK - A versatile utility fixed blade. If I needed to distribute knives for my team of survivalists after society flips out, it would be either this or the Recon Tanto (though I realize the tanto tip is not everyone’s cup of tea). You can do camp chores with it, cut rope, chop small branches, and it’ll keep on trucking. Also, for me at least, it’s not too long or heavy so it’s fairly convenient to stow in a backpack or attach to your belt for long periods of time. The option of having this knife in SK5 or 3V is a nice bonus as well.

Recon 1 - Let biases be known, this is my favorite folding knife to date. The ergonomics just work for me, the tanto blade came sharp out of the box, and lockup is 100% solid. For EDC tasks, this is my go-to knife. The aggressive tacticool design doesn’t bother me one bit. Proved to myself several times that this knife simply works.

Voyager XL - I’d say the niche of this one is the Tuff Lite’s bigger brother. Whereas the first knife on our list is the faithful mule, the Voyager XL is the massive reliable draft horse. There may be days when you’ll find the additional cutting edge handy. It’s possible to use a longer knife more carefully as you would a smaller knife (choking up and resting your thumb on the spine) but you can’t expect a 2.5” blade to perform like a 5.5” beast.

Feel free to share your own list! I’m interested to know what you guys would recommend.
1) SRK in CPM-3V
2) Chaos Bowie
3) Jungle Machete (South African version)
4) XL Voyager

Honorable Mention) Drop Forged Survivalist (new version)

Urban Shiv
Urban Hunter
Imperial Tanto
Imperial Tai Pan
Intruder Trail Master

😀

Seriously:

Recon Tanto or SRK
Master Tanto or Outdoorsman
Pick a Bowie
Pick a Machete
Pick a small knife

SRK 3V- great design and a great outdoors knife that can be found under $100 which is crazy

Master Hunter 3V ( and Carbon V). Another great design in a knife that can do most outdoor chores well.

Trailmaster- because they are just cool.

4Max Scout. The biggest bang for your bucks in a folder with great fit/finish, decent steel that comes sharp, super lock up and massive Triad lock. Can be found under $50 which is insane.
