Greetings my friends and lovers of sharp things. It's Monday, it's President's Day, and I hope you all make it great!
Below is a brother to the 4" and 5" Hunters (the new 5" will be posted tomorrow) I posted for you previously.
I made 2 copies of each of those blades and finally finished the second set.
Decided to give this model the Cowboy name, rather than just calling them "hunters"...seems a little more appropriate for the shape.
I hope you enjoy them...
Specs:
A2 @ 59-60 HRC
0.175" x 1.5" x 9-1/8" OAL.
4-1/8" tip to scales with a high sabre grind and forced patina for rust protection. Not too dark, but a cool pattern came out of it.
Weight is approx. 11 oz., with a slight bias to the handle and a balance point just behind the index finger.
Handle is 3-piece with a beautiful locally sourced mystery wood and handmade denim and burlap Micarta.
- Very thick and hand-filling measuring 1.2" at the swell but nicely contoured and rounded for comfort.
***Wood is not stabilized, and the right side of handle cracked during assembly, requiring it to be filled with epoxy, so I didn't have to cut it off and start over. (See close-up)
- Crack has not expanded since repair.
- Multiple treatments/soaks with Tung Oil and Orange Oil, and sanding to 1200 grit for a smooth finish.
Kydex sheath with leather overstrap and removable/reversable dangler designed to accommodate vertical or horizontal carry.
- Pretty tight on insertion and removal due to the flare at the front of the handle
I hope you all like it...
