Looking to get my first stainless steel knife for Florida. Will be used for fish and camping and bushcraft survival. Also Advise in what steel would help. I have been thinking m390, cpm 20v or s90v. Whats a better steel are they all good or did i miss one. What knife should i be looking into? thank you everyone who is always overly helpful.

Those are all good ones. 204P is another version of 20cv and m390 and all score high in Ankerson's edge retention tests. 110V not so many choices and often pricey but another supersteel. I'm a big fan of s90v as done by spyderco. The Spyderco Phil Wilson southfork is a first rate choice if you aren't planning a lot of batoning and just cutting. I think the Survive 4.1 in 20CV will be a good choice when you can get one. There are a lot of choices if you expand your steel options - loads of VG10 choices for example (Falkniven F1 for a thicker blade, Spyderco Moran for a little thinner. Bark River offers a bunch of models in Elmax or S35vn for a notch above VG10 in edge retention. Lots of choices in 154cm and S30V. If you want to spend the money, Big Chris offers some outstanding blades in S90V and CPM154 on the makers exchange here.

Cold steel master hunter has worked fine for me! Laminated VG-1 isn't exactly a supersteel, but it's still pretty good for a smaller camp knife. The lamination also allows for harder tasks like batoning without worrying about snapping the blade

I find the edge retention to be adequate as well

Not my picture BTW. Just a random Google images result

A couple different sheath options for the bravo 1. I prefer leather. Hard to go wrong with a bravo 1....

Boker Pry Mate...made in Germany with N690bo what more can you ask for? or get a smaller one Pry Mate mini? both are bomb proof and razor sharp.

Yes the bravo one is very nice but i would rather 1/4" over 4" then under it. At 3.75" i would rather 3.5 to be legal cary. So its kinda in the limbo size for me.

I see you making topics all over the place looking for the perfect camp knife.

Why don't you just pick up a Bravo 1 and see how it suits you and go from there?
If you don't like it, you can always get 80-90% of your money back by selling it here on the forum, or on eBay.

I gotta believe that at this point, you have TONS of information on all kinds of knives and just need to pick one and buy it :p

Fallkniven F1 is my will have one day knife. But for now my Moras do everything I need them to. If you want stainless try a Morakniv Companion in SS. The handle is very comfortable for extended use and non slip. If you prefer the looks of the original, like I do, the no 1 is a great knife as well. A lot of people dislike the wood handle, but I find it comfortable for moderate use and have never as of yet had a problem with my hand slipping.

Yes i looked into Fallkniven for a while what held me back was 2 things. 1 i have heard the handles dont last compared mircata expecially if you accidentally hit them while batoning. And 2 the companys warranty. I like buying a knife and knowing that i dont have to buy it or a like one again. If im wrong abiut fallkniven please tell me i think the s1 looks bad. And yes ibhave already purchased a lot of knives from all the topics iv gotten my folder a few medium knives some random cheap ones before them. I am needing two more.... well until i have them.... then it will start again.

If you haven't already pick up a Mora. See how you like that before you jump into the higher carbide steels.

For bush, from 4" up I prefer a leuku.

Take five minutes and check out the leuku's of the Nordic knife makers---Wood Jewel, J. Martinni, Ragnar, many others.... Any level of quality you want; specific outdoor steels and beautiful wood work.
